Gujarat Technological University (GTU) is a state-wide institution affiliating many reputed colleges across the state of Gujarat. Gujarat Technological University was established by an act of Gujarat Legislature (Gujarat Act No. 20 of 2007). The Gujarat Technological University was established in 2008 with the prime objective to create centres and institutes of excellence in the areas of science, engineering and management. The University has more than 440 Institutes affiliated Institutes and 15 recognized Institutions. It provides courses in Medical, Engineering & Technology, Pharmacy, Commerce and Management through it's various Affiliated Colleges. The University also runs sectoral/specific program in Port Management, Nano Technology, Tissue Culture. GTU also conducts specialized workshops to develop the faculties based on the gaps identified during observations. The Gujarat Technological University campus is not bound at one location, rather it is spread across the entire city of Ahmedabad and its Colleges and Institutes are spread across districts of Ahmedabad, Kaira (excluding the limits of Vallabh Vidyanagar in Anand Taluka and the area with a radius of 5 miles (8.0 km) from the office of Sardar Patel University), Panchmahals, Sabarkantha, Banaskantha (excluding Abu Road Taluka which forms part of the State of Rajasthan) and Vadodara (excluding the area comprising the city of Vadodara and territories within a radius of 10 miles (16 km) from the office of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda ). GTU is launching more than 2000 Course web-sites, based on moodle. Moodle is a Course Management System (CMS), also known as a Learning Management System (LMS) or a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). It is a Free web application that educators can use to create effective online learning sites. GTU Campus Connect web-site has been designed by students, it is being run by students and its objective is to help the students.

Gujarat Technological University (GTU) has bagged the prestigious eIndia Digital Learning Award for ICT enabled University of the Year. The Jury’s Choice award was given in recognition of the path-breaking initiative of taking Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GCET) online. GTU conducted the first ever online entrance examination for a state university in July 2009. GTU partnered with MeritTrac Services, India’s largest Skill Assessment Company for the online entrance exam from 1 to 5 July 2009 at 37 online test centres spread across 11 cities in Gujarat. It was the first time in India that any state-level Government University conducted an online entrance exam. This exam was held for the admissions to Masters of Business Administration (MBA) and Masters of Computer Application (MCA) courses in all GTU affiliated Institutions throughout Gujarat. MeritTrac Services, as an assessment partner managed the entire technology & delivery process of the exam. A total of 22,797 candidates took this 2 hour Online Test, in three batches every day.
