MDS or Master of Dental Surgery is a postgraduate Dentistry course. Dentistry is the medical specialty concerned with the anatomy, development, and disorders of the teeth. The duration of a Master of Dental Surgery study is normally three years; however, there is a provision for a two-year Master of Dental Surgery program for applicants who have finished the Post Graduate Diploma degree authorized by the DCI. The programs encourage the development of critical thinking, research abilities, and advanced clinical skills, all of which will be recognized for specialist registration. The Dental Council of India (D.C.I) is the governing authority for dentistry education, and all dental colleges must follow the rules and regulations. The program lasts three years and is designed to prepare students for careers.
Master of Dental Surgery Eligibility
- A Candidate should be physically fit to undergo the MDS course and should not suffer from any contagious disease.
- Foreign Nationals seeking admission for the Post Graduate course in various institutes must procure temporary registration by the Dental Council of India for the duration of the Postgraduate training restricted to the dental college to which he/she is admitted.
- The Age Limit is mostly 21 years of age. The selection of students for MDS is based on the merit of the candidate and the determination of merit. All India Common Entrance Test (AICET) is conducted by various Dental Colleges or by the agency specified by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi.
- The minimum qualification for this course is a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Dental Council of India. Candidate not possessing a recognized Dental qualification for the above purpose should secure the prior approval of his qualifications by the Dental Council of India before he can be admitted to the MDS course of any University in India.
