Graduation

M.S. Neurosurgery or Master of Surgery in Neurosurgery is a two-year post-graduate programme. Neurology concerns the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, disorders and injuries of the brain, nervous system and spinal cord. Neurological surgeons--or neurosurgeons--perform surgical procedures to treat these issues, if necessary. To become a neurosurgeon, a doctor must complete a rigorous 7-year residency program after medical school. Candidates focus on a different aspect of neurology every year that they are in a residency program. Topics covered during a neurosurgical residency include:

  • Neurosurgery ICU
  • Paediatric neurology and neurosurgery
  • Brain and spinal injuries
  • Neuropathology
  • Neuroradiology
  • Clinical research

M.S. Neurosurgery Eligibility

  • Candidates should have passed an MBBS degree with minimum 50% marks from a recognised university board.
  • Some of the very reputed universities and institutes conduct an entrance examination for admission.

M.S. Neurosurgery Course Suitability

  • M.S. Neurosurgery is suitable to examine, diagnose and surgically treat disorders of the nervous system. Neurosurgeons perform surgery on the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves to remove tumours, relieve chronic pain and treat wounds, vascular disorders and diseases such as Parkinson's and epilepsy.
  • They also use surgery to relieve hydrocephalus, the abnormal build-up of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. Brain surgeons may focus on the correction of deformities and treatment of diseases of the spinal cord such as degenerative spine disorder and scoliosis.
  • Other areas of sub-specialization include paediatric neurosurgery and radiosurgery, the targeted use of radiation to treat tumours.

How is M.S. Neurosurgery Course Beneficial?

  • The course is beneficial to encourage students to relate to other clinical scientists and to understand the scientific principles underlying this field. It will be of value to those with a background in Neuroradiology, Neurosurgery or Neurology who are planning a career in academic or clinical Endovascular Neurological therapy.
  • The program is intended for surgeons who have completed specialist training as neurosurgeons and who wish to develop sub specialist expertise in cerebrovascular neurosurgery.
