MTech (Geo-Technical Engineering) or Master of Technology in Geo-Technical Engineering is a two-year Post-Graduate Geology course. The discipline of civil engineering dealing with the engineering behavior of ground materials is known as geotechnical engineering. Geo-Technical Engineering is crucial in civil engineering, but it is also employed in military, mining, petroleum, and any other engineering that deals with ground building.

The Master of Technology in Geo-Technical Engineering is focused on the construction of structures on, in, or with soil and rock. Dams, embankments, cuttings, foundations, retaining walls, anchors, tunnels, and any other constructions that interact directly with the subsoil, both onshore and offshore, are designed by geotechnical engineers. Other fields that share interests with geotechnical engineering include structural engineering, engineering geology, material science, and petroleum engineering. Geomechanics, foundations, earth support structures, dams, tunnels, slope stability, geotechnical earthquake engineering and soil dynamics, site improvement, biosynthetic, groundwater, pollution transport, chemical behavior of soil, and waste disposal facilities are among the topics covered.

MTech (Geo-Technical Engineering) Eligibility

  • The students should have passed a Graduation degree such as a BE / BTech degree or equivalent qualification in any relevant fields from a recognized University.
  • The candidates should have secured a minimum of 50% aggregate marks or equivalent in their Bachelor's.
  • Some of the very reputed institutes conduct an entrance examination for admission.

MTech (Geo-Technical Engineering) Course Suitability

  • Students who want to learn about the use of soils, rocks, aggregates, concrete, bituminous materials, pavement systems, fly ash, and bulk solids will find a range of options in both coursework and research.
  • The Geotechnical Engineering course is appropriate for students who want to learn about and apply how soil and rock are used as engineering materials in our built world.
  • Those who wish to become instructors or professors are also eligible; to become permanent lecturers, they must have completed the UGC-NET test.

How is the MTech (Geo-Technical Engineering) Course Beneficial?

  • The Master of Technology course in Geotechnical Engineering is useful for providing background knowledge and training to students in order to prepare them to analyze, design, and construct structures, as well as to provide solutions to problems in geotechnical engineering and environmental geotechnics.
  • They can also prepare and offer analytical assistance to both junior and senior employees, assist with junior staff professional development, and examine analysis and reports from other experienced engineers.
  • The Geotechnical Engineering course also seeks to teach professionals in geophysical and seismic engineering who can assess, anticipate, and mitigate earthquake risk.
  • They can also continue their research after the course.
