Poultry is defined as - A domesticated gallinaceous bird thought to be descended from the red jungle fowl. Poultry farming refers to the practice of raising poultry such as chickens, turkeys, ducks and other fowls for acquiring meat or eggs. It is a subcategory of animal husbandry. Poultry courses in India, obviously deal with Poultry Farming and everything associated with it, whether it is research, disease control, breeding, feed and so on. Poultry Farming in India has come of age. Specially developed breeds of egg type chicken are now available with traits of quick growth and high feed conversion efficiency. Fowl are usually fed a combination of maize, soy, rice bran and cereals. Feed alone forms about 60% of the cost of raising poultry. As per NABRAD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) – Production of eggs has been rising at a rate of 8% per annum.
