CLAT 2025 - Common Law Admission Test acronym CLAT is conducted on the National level by one of the seven top Law institutes of India in more than 20 main cities of the country. It is an entrance exam for students who want to pursue 5 years integrated law course and PG Course in 22 National Law Universities - the best law institutes in India.
Some of the other prestigious law institutes of India also consider CLAT scores as the criterion to give admission to law aspirants. Performance in the Common Admission Test or CLAT, followed by Group Discussions and Personal Interviews, serves as the basis for admission.
CLAT 2025 is being conducted by Rajiv Gandhi National Law University, Patiala this year in Online mode.

- To be eligible to appear in CLAT the aspiring
candidate should have obtained a Senior Secondary School/Intermediate (10+2) or its equivalent certificate from a recognized Board with not less than 45% marks in aggregate (40% in case of SC & ST candidates).

- Aspiring candidates should have obtained
an LL.B/B.L. Degree or an equivalent degree from a recognized University with not less than 55% marks in aggregate (50% in the case of SC & ST candidates).
|
Age Limit
- The candidates should be below 20 years of age as of 1st July 2021 (22 years in the case of SC and ST candidates).
|
- The candidates who are appearing or have appeared in the qualifying degree examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to appear in the test.
|
Note: Candidates who are appearing or have appeared in the 10+2 examination and are awaiting results are also eligible to appear in the test. However, such candidates are required to have passed the qualifying examination at the time of their admission and must be able to submit the proof in support of their claims.

Note: The candidates who have passed the qualifying degree examination through supplementary/ compartment and repeat attempts are also eligible for appearing in the test and taking admission provided that such candidates will have to produce proof of having passed the qualifying examination with fifty-five/fifty percent marks, as the case may be, on the date of their admission or within the time allowed by the respective universities.

CLAT 2025 Exam Syllabus
The CLAT exam consists of the following topics.
English Including Comprehension

General Knowledge & Current Affairs
|
The English section will test the candidates’ proficiency in English based on comprehension of passages and grammar.
- In the comprehension section, candidates will be assessed on their understanding of the passage given, its central theme, and meanings of the words used therein, etc.
- The grammar section will focus on the correction of incorrect grammatical sentences, filling in blanks in the given sentences with appropriate words, etc.

- As far as general knowledge is concerned; the candidates will be assessed on their general awareness including static general knowledge.
- Questions on current affairs will test a candidate’s knowledge of current affairs.

Quantitative Techniques

Logical Reasoning
|
- This section will test the candidate’s knowledge of elementary mathematics, i.e. mathematics taught up to Class X.
|
- The purpose of the logical reasoning section is to test the candidate’s ability to identify patterns, and logical links and rectify illogical arguments. It will include a wide variety of logical reasoning questions such as syllogisms, logical sequences, analogies, etc.
- However, visual reasoning will not be tested.

Legal Reasoning
|
- This section will test the candidate’s interest in the study of law, research aptitude, and problem-solving ability.
- Questions asked may comprise legal propositions/ principles and a set of facts to which the said proposition/ principle has to be applied to arrive at a most reasonable conclusion.
- Such propositions may or may not be ‘true in the real sense, yet the candidates will have to assume that the given propositions are true and answer the questions accordingly.
- An example of such a legal proposition may be that any person who speaks in a movie hall and disturbs others who are watching the movie will be banned from entering any movie theatre across India for one year.

Imp: Candidates should have secured at least 40% (35% in case of SC, ST, and PWD) marks in the 1st section (MCQs) for the evaluation of the 2nd section (descriptive section).
Note: There shall be Negative Marking both for UG/PG, wherein 0.25 marks will be deducted for each of the wrong answers to multiple-choice questions.

CLAT 2025 Exam process
The admission process to India’s topmost Law institutes consists of the following few steps:
- Performance in CLAT is the primary basis for shortlisting candidates for the second round of the admission process, which comprises GD(PI) or personal interviews.
- After the GD/PI round, admission offers are made by the law institutes to successful candidates. The ranking and final selection are based on a diverse set of attributes and may include performance in CLAT, and performance in GD/PI.
How to apply for CLAT 2025 Exam?
- Candidates can apply Online by visiting and following the instructions given on the website (www.clatconsortiumofnlu.ac.in).
- The online payment for applying for CLAT 2024 can be made through net banking, debit cards, credit cards, etc.
- In the case of an online application, the candidates will have to bear the additional transaction costs for remitting the fees online through payment gateways.
Mode of Applying
- Application for CLAT-2024 can also be made online (www.clatconsortiumofnlu.ac.in) including online payment of application fees and uploading of the passport size (3.5 x 4.5) photograph and scanned copy of the signature through electronic mode.
- Candidates applying online must visit and carefully read the instructions given on the CLAT website (www.clat.ac.in).
- Online payment can be made through net banking, debit cards, credit cards, etc.
- In the case of an online application, the candidates will have to bear the additional transaction costs for remitting the fees online through payment gateways.
