The electrician is a skilled worker who is able to handle and repair electrical appliances used by a human being in all walk of life.  With virtually everything from a little shaver to a Railway engine going electrical the scope for the electrician has been increasing at a very fast rate not in the developing or underdeveloped but developed countries also. There was a time when most of the daily routine works were handled with the manual power. But now with the reach of electricity to every nook and corner of the country the use of electrical goods has increased many folds thus the never-ending demand of this professional every now and then.

Today every small work in a home whether it is washing of clothes, utensils or chopping of onions in the kitchen is done by electrical appliances. These are the thing which has to be used on the daily basis and need periodical maintenance. These are a few to tell and there are hundreds of more like this in a home and all these require electricians at regular interval. Thus the importance of these professional has increased in the last few years. And this demand is universal irrespective of a country's economic progress.

Electricians of Asian countries and especially Indian subcontinent are greatly demanded overseas because this professional over here are considered to be more hardworking, efficient and above all are available at reasonable salaries. This overseas demand of electrician has made this profession a lucrative one as one can go overseas and can earn handsomely to lead a good life after some hard work away from home.

But to become an efficient electrician is a not a mean task as a lot of hard work and dedication is required. He is a person who is supposed to do his work with utmost sincerity and hundred per cent perfection as the job he is doing is full of risk not for him but also for his client. A little mistake or carelessness on his part could prove fatal for any of the two.

Though this is not considered as one of the most sorts after profession. But its importance in every field cannot be ignored either. Like every other so-called cherished profession, this is also providing a lot of opportunities to show their talent and earn money to the younger generation throughout the world now.

The job of an Electrician demands intensive knowledge of Electric circuits and other basic operations of the electrical appliances he is dealing with. For this one should have the capacity to work hard with commitment and honesty. The job requires a lot of hard work, imagination and alertness of mind and adaptability to follow difficult time schedules.

To discharge his duties efficiently and effectively an electrician requires special training of nearly Six months to a Year. To be an Electrician one has to follow the below-given path.

 

Eligibility to become  an Electrician

1. Educational Qualification
Though no specific Educational qualification is required to become an electrician but to work in an effective manner one should at least be a Matriculate or Senior Secondary Pass out. However higher the qualification of the Electrician wider will be the scope for him to get the work in the various reputed public and private organization not only here in India but also overseas.

2. Age
Minimum age to work in the organized sector is 18 years and Maximum age is from 25 to 40 years depending upon the organization one is applying.

 

How to become an Electrician?

To become an electrician one has to follow the below given steps:-

Step1
One can be an electrician by even acquiring basic knowledge of electrical circuits or certain specific electrical appliances by being an assistant to an experienced electrician and getting the required electrician training on the job. But there is little growth of such electricians in the long run. Besides electrician of this level cannot get good opportunities in the future because of their limited knowledge and depth of the subject matter they are dealing in. The best and most appropriate way to enter this Profession is to first complete basis though not essential qualification i.e. Matriculation and if it is with 60% marks then the gates of virtually every organization are wide open for you to be an electrician and that too with a lot of opportunities to climb the ladder afterwards. 

Step 2

Join state-run or approved Industrial Training Institutes operating in nearly every district. For one year certificate or diploma course in the respective trade.

Eligibility/conditions for this course are as follow:

Matriculation in any stream with 60% marks required to get admission in some of the reputed institutions.

Note: Candidates who have appeared in the above-mentioned examinations are also eligible for “Provisional Registration” for this course.

Step 3
The aspirant has to take an entrance test to get admission in this one year certificate or diploma course in the trade of electrician. However, some institution may provide admission on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination and also on one first come first bases.

Step 4
After getting this diploma one can applying against the vacancies lying vacant in various private or public sector organisations. One can also start his own business on small scale. Governments of many countries provide financial aids for such initiators on subsidized loans.

Important:-
If one is seeking to build his career in some overseas country then he should be apt in English language and must be able to clear the IELTS exam with specified bands.

 

Electrician Job Description and Career Prospects

Electrician job profile includes maintenance of Electric circuits in various domestic and industrial organisations. He is also supposed to handle and repair various electrical appliances used in homes like washing machines, cooler, mixer etc and industrial units like boilers, cooling plants.

 

Electrician Salary

As far as the salary of an electrician is concerned he can expect to get  approximately Rs.5000-Rs.6000 per month to start with and with little experience and knowledge of the appliance he has to deal with he can get anywhere near Rs.8,000-Rs.10,000. In industrial units or big corporate houses as residents electrician  one can get must more in term of monetary values as well as other facilities. Whereas  if one goes for his own self then the sky is the limit for an efficient electrician as one can get as bigger an assignment as one cannot think of. But all this depends upon one’s own ability and capacity to do work.
