About Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology - KIIT

KIIT stands for Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology. It was founded by noted social and educational entrepreneur, Dr. Achyuta Samanta in 1992. What started as a nondescript industrial training institute functioning from a rented building with only 12 students and two faculty is now a diversified group of institutions offering academic programmes from Kindergarten to Postdoctorate level. It has fast emerged as a centre of excellence in the field of professional education in India.

It was conferred University status under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956 by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India in 2004. It is Accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) of the University Grant Commission (UGC). It's Academic programmes are also approved by Statutory Bodies of Government of India such as Medical Council of India (MCI), Dental Council of India (DCI) and Bar Council of India (BCI) as applicable. Besides the regular schools, KIIT has set up four new schools of learning-School of Mass Communication, School of Design, School of Film Studies and School of Sculpture to meet the aspirations of the students and professionals interested in the respective fields.

The institute has sixteen sprawling campuses built on 350 acres of land. It has it's own entrance examination (KIITEE) for admission into most of the academic programmes. It is committed to set international benchmark of excellence in the field of professional learning. Academic programmes of KIIT Group of Institutions are imparted from it's various constituent schools. Other institutions under KIIT Society are KIIT International School, KIIT Polytechnic, KIIT ITI, KIIT Science College and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences.

Location - Orissa is situated in the eastern part of India. It is located in an idyllic setting in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Orissa.

Transportation - Bhubaneswar has excellent communication with the outside world. You can arrive in India at one of its International Airports. The city is conveniently linked to the all International Airports in India by Air, Rail and Road.
  • By Air - Biju Patnaik Airport in Bhubaneswar has regular flights to and from all the major cities of India, including Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and to all state capitals. Work is in progress to upgrade the Biju Patnaik Airport into an International Airport.
  • By Rail - There are direct trains to and from Bhubaneswar from all the major cities of India. Railway is the most preferred, safe and cheap mode of travel in India, though a bit time consuming.
  • By Road - A well planned public transport system connects different locations within the city. It is connected with cities in Orissa and India through State and National Highways. Cars are readily available for hire from numerous travel agencies in the city.

Facilities

Classrooms - KIIT provides air conditioned multimedia classrooms with wireless LCD projector in each room. Classrooms are spacious and well designed to make it student friendly.

Intelligent e campus - Computing network proudly privileges hi- tech facilities such as Wi-Fi hot spots installed over Optical Fibre and Wireless Bridge. Accessibility to network and computing resources has been achieved from any place within the campus. The resources include IBM Blade Centre Servers, VOIP Telephony, Video Conferencing, broadband internet, VPN with remote campuses and the total spectrum of application software including CAD, CAM, Robotics, simulators and embedded software.

Campus - Each institute of KIIT Group of Institutions functions from its independent campus. Sixteen sprawling campuses of KIIT offer modern facilities most conducive for learning.

International Students Scholarship Scheme
- It is funded by the University directly and aims to provide financial assistance to students from overseas who are applying to study at the University of KIIT.

Hostel - KIIT's hostel is a home away from home. Here the students stay in a healthy atmosphere and perfect living conditions along with friends to share the precious moments of life. Separate hostels for boys and girls with modern amenities help the students to pursue their education in an homely environment.

Library - The library is housed in an ultra-modern and well equipped four storied building. The different sections of library are fully automated through e-Institute Management System. Besides the Central library, there are separate libraries in each campus. The Central library facilitates 24 hours Reading Room facility with 1,200 sitting capacity, 90,000 Reference Titles and Digital Library & Web Journals

Research and Development - The R&D Wing also promotes interdisciplinary research through multidisciplinary interactions. The vision is to unleash creative thinking and enable KIIT to become a well-known technological university for research and development as well as for post-graduate education and doctoral research.

Hospital - KIIT has its own 500 bedded super speciality hospital (attached to the School of Medicine), which provide free medical and dental consultancy and treatment to its students.

Transport - A fleet of buses meets the transport needs of the students coming to and fro from various parts of the city. These buses serve as the link between the campus and the city.

Basic Amenities - KIIT campus is a self sufficient campus providing basic amenities such as Post Office, Bank, ATM counters of Allahabad Bank, Punjab National Bank and ICICI Bank Ltd, etc. in close vicinity. Students and staff can also book train tickets through in-campus Passenger Reservation System of Indian Railways.

Auditorium & Conference Hall - The conference hall of KIIT is well equipped for its purpose and hosts many world-class conferences and seminars. The air-conditioned auditorium has a sitting capacity of 1000. It is here that all the cultural programs, meetings and special events are organised throughout the year.

Indoor and outdoor Stadium - KIIT has one of the biggest in-campus indoor stadiums with 6000 sq.ft. of wooden flooring. It provides facility for all types of indoor games including an air-conditioned billiard room. A large sports arena provides facilities for outdoor games such as basketball, lawn tennis, hockey, cricket etc.
