About Centurion University of Technology and Management - CUTM

Centurion University of Technology and Management (CUTM) is a Private, Unitary University. It is the first and only privately managed multi-sector state university in Odisha. Centurion University is also the First University of Eastern India to be set up in a Tribal District. CUTM was established as a State Private University in 2010 by an Act of the Orissa Legislative Assembly. The Centurion University of Technology and Management was established as Centurion Group of Institutes in 2005 by a group of professors. These professors were Prof. Mukti K Mishra, Prof. D. N. Rao and Prof. D.K. Mishra. These professors took over an ailing engineering institute – Jagannath Institute for Technology and Management (JITM) at Parlakhemundi, Gajapati. It was set up in 1997 at the behest of the-then Prime Minister of India, Shri P.V. Narasimha Rao. Gajapati is the poorest district of Odisha State, and appears in the Prime Minister’s “100 poorest districts” and “31 most extremist affected districts” list. Since then, committed efforts have been made to bring about a difference to this area; both academically and socio-economically. The University comprises of a network of educational institutions in Odisha, which includes School of Engineering and Technology, School of Agricultural Sciences, School of Basic Sciences, School of Management and School of Vocational Education and Training. The university headquarters is located at Paralakhemundi, Odisha, it is also the main campus and is spread over an area of 140 acres.

The Centurion University has Five Campuses:

  2. Bhubaneswar
  3. Bolangir
  4. Rayagada
  5. Chatrapur

While the campuses at Paralakhemundi and Jatni run undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Engineering, Technology and Management, the campuses at Rayagada and Bolangir offer postgraduate programmes in Basic and Applied sciences. Further, in the campus at Paralakhemundi, undergraduate programmes in Agriculture Science and Engineering are also offered. In addition to the above mentioned programmes, the University also conducts research programmes leading to Ph.D. The School of vocational education and training named as Gram Tarang is the learning laboratory for all the other schools and departments. It is one of the major skill providers in India. The University students, faculty get action learning and hands on practical experience through the Gram Tarang outreach organizations. Through Gram Tarang, the University has become the first partner to National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to set up over 50 Skill Training and Capacity Building Centres across the country. The University has entered into partnership with Government of Odisha, Government of India and non-government agencies to provide vocational training with job assurance for BPL, SC & ST youth, who would otherwise be unemployed and unemployable due to lack of adequate education and/or skills. The University is member of Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The University follows Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) to all engineering students from the academic year 2015-16. CBCS gives students the flexibility to choose his subjects from a list of subjects. Student can also pace their academic planning as per their capacity.

The campus at Paralakhemundi is strategically located at R. Sitapur village, about 5 kms from the District Head Quarters, Paralakhemundi.

Reaching Bhubaneswar

I.  By Train - Paralakhemundi is the district headquarters of Gajapati district. It can be reached both by rail and road. The nearest railway station Palasa is 44 kms away. All trains connecting Howrah with the southern part of the country pass through Palasa and have halt here.

II.  By Bus - There are buses connecting the trains which ply between Palasa and Parlakhemundi. There are also direct buses running between Parlakhemundi and Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Rayagada, Vizainagaram, Vishakapatnam etc.

III.  By Air - Vishakapatnam is the nearest airport and it is serviced by all major airlines operating in the country

Facilities at Centurion University

Hostels - Paralakhemundi campus has 9 hostels, 6 are for boys and 3 are for girls. The hostels are named - Mahanadi Boy's Hostel, Rushikulya Boy's Hostel, Indiravati Boy's Hostel, Nagabali Boy's Hostel, Bansadhara Boy's Hostel, MBA Boy's Hostel, Mahindra Tanaya Girl's Hostel, Baitarini MBA Girl's Hostel and MBA Girl’s Hostel.

CSR Program – As a part curriculum, all students of CUTM are required to participate in the Culture, Sports, and Responsibility (CSR) program during their studies. The program gives students an opportunity to learn from the experience of doing real tasks beyond the classroom, related to culture (student life/creative pursuits), sports (activities for Physical Fitness) and responsibility (activities for the benefit of the community or the environment). Each student is required to complete a total of 30 hours of CSR activities each academic year. This should include 10 hours of Culture, 10 hours of Sports and 10 hours of Responsibility. After completing of an activity, the Faculty supervisor signs this record booklet. Only students who have completed the required hours (each activity will be minimum of 1 hour and maximum of 8 hours) of CSR, are eligible to pass that academic year. At the end of the Centurion University degree, the CSR grade will be reflected in the final Grade Sheet and the student will receive the CSR Booklet listing all of the CSR Activities he has completed. This can be used for his/her Resume. Information about student clubs, meetings, including details like Faculty-In-Charge, their contact, and CSR updates are displayed on the CSR Activity Information Board on campus.

Library - It has a collection of Reference Books, Periodicals and Newspapers. The Digital library subscribes to different electronics resources like IEEE, Elsevier, Science Direct, ASME, J-Gate, Industrial outlook from CMIE, N-List programme from Inflibinet.

E-Classrooms - The e-classrooms are equipped with Audio-Visual aids, LCD Projectors, Internet, Computers, Laptops, E-learning materials, Intranet, Tablets, Video-conferencing etc.

Internet Facility – The University has 1 GB Broadband lease line internet connectivity.

Scholarships - The University provides various Scholarships to the meritorious students, to students whose family is financially weak, students from SC, ST, OBC and Minority.

Post Office - Paralakhemundi campus has a Branch Post inside the campus and provides postal services like Money Orders, Postal Orders, Postage, etc here.

Transportation - Paralakhemundi campus has 14 buses for staff and students commuting from nearby areas such as Palasa , Pathpatnam, Srikakulam , Tekkali. Bus facility is available from campus to Bhubaneswar via Palasa, Berhampur, Khurda. Bus service from CUTM campus to Indrabati via Gunupur , Rayagada , Koraput , Jeypore , Nawrangpur are also available.

Health Centre - Paralakhemundi campus has a dispensary in the campus and a qualified Doctor is appointed to provide regular and intensive medical care to the students. An emergency ambulance is also available round the clock.

Sports – The University provides facilities for outdoor games like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Lawn Tennis, Basketball, Badminton and Athletics. There are also facilities for indoor games like Table Tennis, Chess, Carom etc.

Placement Cell – The cell utilises academic modules and intensive training programs to develop students as per the industry requirement. The cell partners with various companies for Campus Recruitment. The curriculum is developed in consultation with industry partners and constant feedbacks are sought to challenge and improve upon existing curricula.
