Desh Bhagat University (D.B.U.), Mandi Gobindgarh is a State Private University established under Punjab Government Desh Bhagat University Act, 2012. It has evolved from Desh Bhagat Group of Institutes, which was established in 1996 near Mandi Gobindgarh, a well-known industrial town of Punjab. It is named Desh Bhagat, in the memory and honour of freedom fighter Sardar Lal Singh Ji who fought for the independence of India. In 1972 his efforts of social work and his services in the freedom struggle were recognized by awarding him with Tamra Patra by Government of India. DBU has been established with the mission of pursuing excellence in higher education as envisioned by Sr. Lal Singh Ji. Desh Bhagat United has its campuses at Mandi Gobindgarh, Shri Muktsar Sahib, Moga, Chandigarh and Kenya. It has about 8000+ Students from 28 states of India and 12 Countries (Rawanda, Nigeria, Nepal, Tanzania, Uganda, Bangladesh etc.) DBU is recognised by various organisations like Bar Council of India (BCI), Punjab Nurses Registration Council (PNRC), Indian Nursing Council (INC), Central Council for Indian Medicine (CCIM), National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) and various others. The University is also a member of Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The University has infrastructure with all the modern facilities.

Hostels – DBU has arranged separate hostels for boys and girls within the campus. The hostel rooms have attached washroom, bed, table, chair, almirahs, Air Conditioning/ Cooler facility and Wi-Fi facility amongst others.

Library - The library has a huge collection of books in all professional and technical branches of knowledge. Most of these are Research oriented. It is fully automated with online public access catalogue, LAN, internet and photo copying facilities along with a separate reading room. The library also has collection of journals, reference material and C.D's. University Schools are the members of IDC (Information Dissemination Centre) through which students have unlimited access to countless Indian and Foreign journals free of cost.

Scholarships - Aasra and Satguru foundations help the students by providing liberal financial help, keeping in view their needs and performance.

Some of these are:

• Freedom Fighters Quota - Fee concessions are given to the children of freedom fighters. Some seats are also reserved for their wards.
• Sportsmen Quota - To promote sports, some seats are reserved for sportsmen/women who have excelled in their respective events/games. These scholarships aim at encouraging excellence in sports and recognising other talents. These are awarded to students who are excellent national or state level achievers and have brought laurels during the last two years. All scholarships are decided at the time of admission. The decision of the scholarship committee is final and binding. Sports kits, special diet and other facilities are provided to them in a liberal manner.
• For SC/ST BC, OBC Categories - Scholarships are also arranged for SC, ST, BC, OBC and other minority students as per notifications of Punjab Government, Central Government, Other Statutory Bodies and NGO's from time to time.

Transport - The University has its own fleet of 86 comfortable Vehicles which provide transport facility to students and staff members from places in and around Chandigarh , Ambala, Rajpura , Patiala, Khanna, Gobindgarh, Nabha, Ludhianna, Panchkula, Machiwara, Samrala, Morindra , Bassi , Sirhind, Fathegarh Sahib, Doraha, Samrala, Duri etc. The buses cover an approx. radius 60-65 km from the University on daily basis.

Mini Market – There is a mini market in the campus which is a convenient facility for faculty members and students to buy all items of daily use and things like stationery, soft drinks etc.

Canteen – It is located on the ground floor and provides various types of dishes.

Mess - Mess serves meals thrice a day for the benefit of the students.

Sports Facilities – DBU provides facilities for sports like badminton, basketball, boxing, carom, chess, cricket, cross country, cycling, football, gym, hockey, kabaddi, kho-kho, lawn tennis, short put, softball, table tennis, track and field, volleyball, weight lifting and training centre.

Extracurricular Activities - The University facilitates a multitude of extracurricular activities like performing arts, community service, clubs, governance, student councils, music, media etc. These activities develop interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, endurance, and sound body language.

Conference / Seminars - DBU arranges a number of conferences/seminars headed by the praiseworthy identities of the business having national and global introduction to impart the success secrets of the industry.

Placement Cell – The cell organises various activities for the students before campus placement.

• Industrial Visits - An integral part of technical and professional education these enable the students to comprehend the technology. It also provides them sufficient exposure to practical training.
• Guest Lectures – Exemplary personalities are invited to deliver lectures in which they share their experiences. These guest lectures inculcate relevant practical skills and industrial intellect in the students. These enhance their prominent capabilities of communication, evaluation and conceptualization beyond the aspirations of their industrial talents and professional excellence.
• PD - Personality Development (PD) grooms the personality of the students making them strong and bold so that they can face upcoming challenges. It also helps them to get into better jobs.
