About Anand Agricultural University - AAU

Anand Agricultural University (AAU) was established at Anand with the support of the Government of Gujarat, Act No.(Guj 5 of 2004) dated April 29, 2004. It was  was incorporated as a teaching and affiliating University for imparting education in agriculture and allied sciences. The Gujarat Act No. 5 of 2004  was passed by Gujarat Legislature and assented by H.E. the Governor of Gujarat on 4th March 2004. The AAU has a long cherished history. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a Statesman and Iron man of India and Dr. K. M. Munshi, one of the authors of Indian Constitution had established Krushi-Go-Vidhya Bhavan or Institute of Agriculture, Anand in 1938 to revitalize agriculture and train farmers and their sons and daughters in modern practices of agriculture so that they can raise their head and live in prosperity. The Institute of Agriculture was popularly known as Khetiwadi, which later on in June, 1972 became the part of Gujarat Agricultural University. The Institute of Agriculture, Anand had B.A. College of Agriculture, established in 1947 which was affiliated to Bombay University upto 1956 then with Gujarat University up to 1962 and finally with Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidhyanagar along with Sheth M. C. College of Dairy Science, established in 1960. Later on in 1972 they became integral part of Gujarat Agricultural University along with the Government College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Anand which was established in 1964. The activities of Anand zone of erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University, as it was known then, have been transferred to newly established Anand Agricultural University with effect from May 1, 2004 with three Colleges and 17 Research Stations, one Extension Education Institute and 22 Extension Education Centres. The jurisdiction of the university covers Kheda, Anand, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Dahod and Panchmahal districts.

Facilities

Library -  The Library is in possession of 229 Foreign and Indian Journals, and Eight  CD Rom database AGRIS, AGRICOLA, J-GATE, INDIAN HARVEST (CMIE), AgECON, Biological Abstracts, Annual Review and  CAB Abstracts.  Science Direct and J-Gate are e-journals full text package for AAU users. AAU has become partner of CeRA (Consortium e-resources in Agriculture) NAIP, ICAR project under which the JCCC, Springer collection, Annual Review & CSIRO Australian journals are access able through aau.in web. The Library iS an inextricable part of a nation-wide consortium, towards digitization, automation and establishment of modern Cyberary and 2 mbps Internet and 27 work-stations, thereby obtaining the esteemed position of Regional e-Library. With the Installation of the LibSys Software, the process of automation was complete, and the old manual process of circulation through library cards is totally replaced by e-cards and e-circulation, which enables the users to preview the entire information of circulatory material as well as their own e-account status.

Scholarships - Scholarships for Education and Research in India and the EU The Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window, Lot 13 (India) offers 183 scholarships for academics and students in India and Europe. Students, teachers, researchers and academic staff will have the opportunity to study, teach or work in one of 20 prestigious universities in Europe and India. The scholarship covers travel costs. insurance, tuition fee, living expenses and housing. Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window Lot 13 (EM ECW13) for India is a scholarship programme designed to fund mobility of students and staff between universities in India and Europe. The EM ECW13 is part of a larger EU-programme (EM ECW) that aims to increase cooperation and exchange of knowledge between  Europe and other parts of the world. Scholarship durations are between 1-34 months.

Eligibility:

Target group 1

  1. Students and academic staff registered in one of the member universities of the EM ECW13.
  2. It applies to: undergraduate, master, doctorate, post-doctorate, academic staff.

Target group 2

  1. Nationals of India, registered in a higher education institution not included in the EM ECW13 or having obtained in an Indian institution a university degree or equivalent.
  2. Applies to: Master, doctorate, post-doctorate.

Target group 3

  • Nationals of India registered in a higher education institution or having obtained an Indian university degree, who are in particularly vulnerable situations.
  • Applies to: Undergraduate, master, doctorate, post-doctorate.

Research - Besides the main campus, research is being carried out at 16 research stations spread over six districts of middle Gujarat mainly Ahmedabad, Anand, Dahod, Kheda , Panchmahals and Vadodara. The research is focused on major crops like Paddy, Bajra, Tobacco, Maize, Cotton, Pigeon pea, Vegetable crops, Castor, Sugar Cane, Wheat, Forage crops and Horticulture crops. In addition , the research on animal science include areas like live stock management, animal breeding, Reproductive biology, animal nutrition and poultry. under Dairy technology the emphasis is given on milk and its products.

Sports - The mental pressure and tension arising out of the fast modern life can only be released in the playground and therefore healthy diet and fitness have gained a new status in today's world. In AAU the faculties always participate in student activities to make overall development possible in the student community. Inter-Collegiate competitions for several games like chess, table-tennis, badminton, kabaddi, volley ball, basket ball, kho-kho, cricket, weight-lifting, athletics, cultural activities, essay, debate and elocution competitions etc. are regularly arranged at various colleges.

NSS - National Service Scheme operates in all the constituent colleges of the University. Regular activities such as tree-plantation, blood donation, literacy programme, prevention of AIDS, awareness for self-employment, protection of environment and organize other programmes on important issues throughout the year. The students are expected to work in close coordination with environment, Health, Family Welfare, Hospitals and other organizations during natural calamities.

Student Counselling and Placement Cell - Anand Agricultural University has an excellent placement record with top-notch organizations in Agro- industries with a strong and supportive alumni network holding prime position in reputed companies. Started in 2004, Placement Cell is still in infancy but could create a positive vibe between the aspirants and the employers. We not only ensure a job for the interested students but also instil a lifetime of confidence and growth. Our dedicated placement cell is constantly in touch with the industry. The Student Counselling & Placement Cell looks after students' well-being, Placement and Campus Interview.

Extension Education - Extension Education faculties are engaged in extending the advisory services to the farmers.

These include:

  • Farm Visit, Diagnosis & Recommendation to overcome pests and disease problems, analysis of the soil samples, nutritional and management problems related to agriculture to increase farm income and better rural management.  
  • Diploma courses/ training  programmes in agriculture, home science, bakery, poultry, horticulture etc. are conducted for the benefits of farming community.
  • The Extension Education Institute imparts the training to extension personal and offices of Gujarat, Rajastan, Maharastra, Madhaya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Div and Daman to increase the effectiveness of extension education and communication as well as to make the trainees conversant of the principles of Extension Education.
  • The Krishi Vigyan Kendras undertake vocational training of farmers, farm woman and rural youth, organizes in services training to field level extension workers, conducts on-farms  testing/research for technology assessment and refinement and frontline demonstrations to promptly demonstrations the latest technologies to the farmers as well as extension workers.
  • The Sardar Smruti Kendra is established for the upliftment  of the farming community especially the farmers training is the crucial component among the various extension activities carried out by this centre.
  • Tribal Training Centers are imparting training to tribal community in the field of agriculture and allied sectors for their upliftment.
