Saurashtra University is one of the esteemed Universities in Gujarat. It was established on 23rd May, 1967 under the strong leadership and vision of its first Vice Chancellor Mr. Dolarrai Mankad. The campus of the University is spread over 410 acres of land. The jurisdiction of the University includes Amreli, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Rajkot, Junagadh and Surendra Nagar districts. The University provides one of the most modern and sophisticated infrastructures in the region for higher studies, with all major Departments having their own buildings and other facilities. Saurashtra University has about 207 affiliated colleges and 2 recognized institutions functioning under it. The University has 28 PG Departments. It has 3 modern PG hostels accommodating 225 students along with a huge central library. Almost all Departments have their own customized library. It has a common senate hall, a canteen, a medical check up centre, staff quarters and an employment information and guidance bureau. The University also offers external education to the students in Arts and Commerce faculties for UG as well as PG level courses.

Hostels - There are separate Hostel facilities for both boys and girls.

Library - The Library has a collection of 1,60,000 books, 164 Periodicals which include 145 Indian and 19 Journals. It has about 1800 E-Journals (access through UGC Infonet). Free Internet Access to the member of University Library is also provided by the University.
IGNOU - Saurashtra University has On-Campus sub regional and study centre. It uses latest educational and communication technologies.
Features:
Earn While Learn - The University has implemented the Earn While Learn Scheme to support poor and needy students pursuing their studies on the University campus. Under the scheme, the University aims at providing accommodation, books and food for students coming from poor families free of charge. The university takes care of all the expenses. This is a unique scheme in the entire site for poor students. A separate hostel building is being constructed for the students selected under this scheme.
Research Award - In order to promote excellence in research in higher education Saurashtra University, Rajkot has instituted Professor Dolarrai Mankad Award for Excellence in Research in the memory of its first Vice Chancellor.
IIIC - Industry Institution Interaction Cell was formed in accordance with NAAC guidelines. The Cell would aim at exploring the possibilities of facilitating interaction between Industry and the University, along with finding out the ways mutually beneficial to both.
ASC - Academic Staff College organises Orientation Programmes (OPs) and Refresher Course (RCs) in various discipline for the fresh recruitees as well as those teachers with less then 5 (Five) years of teaching experience. The former are required to attend in OP and the latter at least three RCs before they reach the scale if Readers.
CCDC - Career Counselling and Development Centre offers academic and career-related counselling and coaching to the students of the Saurashtra Region. It guides students in their higher studies and preparation for various competitive examinations. The services provided by the CCDC to the community are with a professional commitment at comparatively lower costs than other private institutes so that the average student can afford them. It is a full-fledged centre with library, seminar hall and internet facility.

Project Gyan Yatra - Under this Project, the University sends its teachers to the Institutions of excellence in India. The purpose of the project is to bring about best practices in teaching and research so that they can be established or started in the University with modifications.
Children's Day Care Centre - The children of the age of 3 months to 6 years are admitted in the centre. Many entertaining and educational toys and games are made available for the kids. There is also playground available for them. There are see-saw, sliding strip, bicycles, tricycles and many other items of pleasure for the children. The modern audio-visual means like TV, DVD player are also utilized for them.
