Doctor of Medicine in Homoeopathy is a Postgraduate Academic Degree which is awarded for a course or program in Homoeopathy. It is also known as M.D. (Hom.) which is an abbreviated form of Doctor of Medicine in Homoeopathy degree. The term M.D. is a Latin word which stands for 'Medicinæ Doctor' which means 'Teacher of Medicine'. The duration of Doctor of Medicine in Homoeopathy is 3 years which includes 1 year of house job, during which the candidates shall be residents in the campus and shall receive training. The 3 years maybe divided into 6 terms of 6 months each. The emphasis of the course is on in- service training rather than didactic lectures. The candidate will be required to take part in seminars, group discussions, clinical meetings and journal club. The candidate would also be required to write a thesis or dissertation with detailed commentary which will provide the candidate with necessary background of training in research. M.D. (Hom.) course includes training meant to produce world class professionals, practitioners, researchers and excellent teachers in Homoeopathy. Central Council of Homoeopathy (CCH) is a statutory apex body under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Department of Indian Systems of Medicine & Homoeopathy. CCH prescribes and recognises all Homoeopathic medicine education in India; any university or medical institutions desiring to grant a medical qualification in Homoeopathy is required to apply to the Council, above all it prescribes course curriculum, evolves standards of education and maintains central registers of homoeopathy physicians. National Institute of Homoeopathy, Calcutta, an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is a model academic institute of Homoeopathy in India. Post Graduate Education in Homoeopathy was introduced in 1989 The Entrance Examination for B.H.M.S. course is usually held in June/July every year.
