A batsman is a person who plays in Cricket Team of a country. The term specialist Batsmen are also used generically to describe players who specialise in batting as opposed to e.g. bowlers who specialise in bowling and the term Batsman is also used in this context. The latter term can, however, refer to any player during their turn at bat. In women's cricket, the term Batswoman is sometimes encountered, as is batter, but the ‘male’ form is widely used in both men's and women's cricket.

There are so many Indian Cricket players who got renowned in Cricket World Kapil Dev, Vinod Kambli, Sunil Gavaskar, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, etc. and Sachin Tendulkar is the extreme point in Indian Cricket. He has been conferred, recently, with ‘Bharat Ratna’ award (4 Feb. 2014), the highest Civilian Award in India.

Educational Qualification
Though there is no special educational qualification for becoming a Batsman, yet if they are educated then it would enhance their status or help them to learn techniques of Cricket.

 

Batsman Required Skills

The basic skills necessary in cricket are for batting, bowling and fielding.

  • Batsmen should have good hand-eye coordination along with quick reflexes, strength, speed, stamina and a knack for seeing scoring opportunities.
  • The most important skill for a batsman is to learn to never take his eye off the ball from the instance the bowler is ready to bowl until the ball is dead.
  • A good batsman should have a solid forward and backward defensive that would form the backbone of his defence and hold out until a loose ball is delivered.
  • They must have good communication with the non-striker which is very important to prevent mix-ups in the middle which result in costly run outs.
  • Another merit is patience which is a defining quality of a great batsman.

 

How to become Batsman?

One has to follow the given steps for becoming a Batsman:

Step 1
Students having talent and will for cricket starting from their childhood and school days can become a good prospective player later. They need everyday practice and playing for this game. During that time they can play inter-school matches and gain experiences from different types of activities there. They also need cricket coaching along with their schooling side by side.

Step 2
After completing their schooling, they can keep carrying their game coaching along with their college studies. During their college time, students are selected for inter-colleges/inter-universities teams to play cricket matches. From there, they are selected for higher level teams and then finally for the state level teams to play in inter-state teams for ‘Ranji Trophy’ at the national level.

Step 3
Students have many options during this entire procedure. They can join Cricket Academies opened throughout the country. Some of them are being given coaching free of cost or by spending little bit amount such as in National Academy of Cricket. Those who are able to pay much for coaching can have coached in private academies run by many former famous players. The main thing for becoming a good cricket player is to play this game as a professional. 

Step 4
Players who performed well in Ranji Trophy like scored good runs and taken good numbers of wickets and worked well in fielding are given chances in National Cricket Team to play for International Cricket Matches. Therefore, it is the process for becoming a Good Cricket Batsman since starting from school days to enter in National Team.

He hits the cricket ball with a cricket bat to score runs for the team. A player who is currently batting is denoted as a batsman, while the act of hitting the ball is called a shot or stroke.

Batsman Salary

Cricket as a career provides fulfilment in many senses. A cricketer can earn money not only by playing but also by endorsements, public appearances, etc. At present every cricketer receives around Rs.2,60,000 for per ODI and Rs.3,50,000 for per Test. Besides this, BCCI had also announced the annual contract fees in Mumbai on September 27, 2007, which made the cricketers even richer.

They are given salary as per their Grades which are given below (the salary is subjected to change from time to time).
‘A’ Grade Player – Rs.60,00,000 annually
‘B’ Grade Player – Rs.40,00,000 annually
‘C’ Grade Player – Rs.25,00,000 annually
‘D’ Grade Player – Rs.15,00,000 annually.
