Although a career as a private detective has gained his ground in the recent past it is not a new profession. How to become a Private Detective?
To be a Private Detective one has to follow the given steps:

Step 1
For becoming a Private detective one has to join a One-year Diploma in investigation offered by

  1. The Indore Christian College, Indore,
  2. The National Institute of Private Investigation, New Delhi,
  3. ACE Detectives India International securities, New Delhi. and
  4. Lancers Network Limited, New Delhi.

There is no formal test to take admission to these institutions. Admission is given on the first come first bases in most of the institutions. 

Step 2
As there is no formal permission or licence is required in our country therefore after completing the course one can either start his work straightway or can join some senior Private detective or detective agency already working in the same filed to gain some first-hand experience of the real detective work.

Work Profile:
Work of a detective primarily relates to fact-finding which involves probing, investigation and knowledge of techniques such as fingerprinting, photography and tracking etc. A detective can be hired to provide information pertaining to some of the following areas:-

Domestic Problem: Problems of divorce, child custody, unnatural deaths, getting information on another family before arranging a marriage, family disputes over wills or property, etc.

Industrial Espionage: In this field, a detective has to investigate the credentials of potential employees, cases of theft and fraud involving executives passing on industrial patents and know - how to rival organizations policies and work culture etc.

Corporate Intelligence: Information about the organization, infringement of trademarks and copyrights, pirating goods, verification of assets of someone who has applied for a loan. Sometimes, private detectives may train and deploy security and bodyguards for different organizations. This depends upon the sensitivity of the information required and the difficulty and risk involved in getting that work done.
