Ecological Economics

Ecological economics is a field of academic research to study the relationship of economy with the ecology & environment. The field is also concerned with energy and material flows, environmental quality, and economic development. Ecological economics includes the study of the metabolism of society, i.e. the study of the flows of energy and materials that enter and exit the economic system in a society. The prime emphasis is laid upon preserving the natural capital.

The related field of green economics is a more politicised form of the subject.
