Yogi Vemana University (YVU) is an Affiliating and a State University, established by the Act of the Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Assembly. Prior to becoming a University, it existed as Sri Venkateswara University Post Graduate (PG) Centre, as a constituent institute of Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, established on 20th November 1977. It was upgraded as Yogi Vemana University on 9th March, 2006 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The university was accorded 2 (f) recognition in 2007 and 12 (B) statuses in 2011 by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. It has been established to impart value-based education, promote quality research and service thereby helping the students and researchers of the backward Rayalseema region in general and Y.S. R district in particular. YVU is named after Vemana, who was a renowned Telugu poet, philosopher, sage, social reformer, thinker and a yogi. Apart from the regular academic courses, Yogi Vemana University also conducts training for short term vocational and job oriented courses on a continuous basis.
Yogi Vemana University Location - The University is situated about 15 kms away from the historic Kadapa City on the Kadapa –Pulivendula road with a sprawling campus of about 700 acres.

YV University Facilities
Hostels - The University provides separate hostel accommodation for men and women. There are four hostels and these are named after the tributaries of Penna River. Chitravathi and Penna are for ladies; Chaiyeru and Papagni are for boys. The hostel buildings have all the adequate facilities.
University Library - The SVUPG Centre Library was started in the year 1997 and it has nearly 30,000 books of different subjects besides 30 journals subscription of National and International repute. The Library is kept open on all working days between 10:00 A.M to 05:00 P.M for study and consultation purpose only.
Agri-Science Park – It aims to assist public, private sectors and farmers in identifying biotech needs and priorities and for assessing potential socio economic impacts. It also advices and offers services to assist in the development of an enabling environment to support the safe applications of crop biotechnology. The Agri-Science Park is equipped with laboratories, incubator facilities, green houses, transgenic plant house, technical and services tools to conduct research, field trials and generate products or sales under one roof.
Botanical Garden - The Yogi Vemana University Botanic Garden is has been made to educate the students, researchers and common man about plant biodiversity and its importance in human well-being. The garden is living repository of indigenous exotic, cultivated and wild plants and houses about 500 species and more than 2000 individual plants. These are cultivated for scientific, educational, and ornamental purposes.It is spread over an area of about 19 acres in the YVU Campus. It also includes a library, a herbarium, and green houses.
Butterfly Park - Darwin's Butterfly Park & Museum is a first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh was established by Dr. S.P. Venkata Ramana, Asst. Professor of the Department of Zoology. It has a collection of nearly 400 butterflies belonging to 23 species. In the Museum more than 70 species along with life cycles have been displayed.
Super Computing Facilities – The Semi Arid Zonal Atmospheric Research Centre (SARC) was established in August 2008 under a memorandum of understanding with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The centre has high performance computers with storage capacity of 20 TB along with modern meteorological remote sensors which are used to forecast weather and used in other allied science applications.
Transport Facilities - The University provides conveyance facility commuting from Kadapa city to the campus and back through its owned buses and two vans. There is a special transport facility for ladies and the staff.
Bank - The banker of the university is the State Bank of India. It has its ATM facility near new administrative building. The staff and the students have the facility to operate the regular transactions and also online banking.
Canteen - The University has a canteen named Oasis which provides partially subsidized food items. It is run by a contractor and it provides various snacks, tea, coffee, cool drinks, breakfast and lunch.
English Laboratory – The Language Communication Skills Laboratory has been launched to provide a platform for the university students to enhance their language proficiency. The laboratory is equipped with 50 workstations and is attached to Department of English.
Post Office - Indian Postal Department established a Branch Post Office in the University which fulfils the requirement of the students and alike. Professional Courier Facility also available in this campus.
Sports and Physical Activity - University Physical Education and Sports Department offers a wide range of sports services for students and staff. It has established a modern fitness centre with 16-station multi-gymnasium and also established several play-grounds for different sports activities.
Ladies Cyber Cafe - This has been established in the Women's Hostel in Yogi Vemana University campus. This Center has 15 computers with latest configurations along with UPS, computer chairs and Tables.
Ladies Gymnasium - It is Equipped with high quality gym equipments; 16 station multigame, abdomen machine, multi twisters etc. Apart from these, sports equipments like table tennis board, chess boards, shuttle court poles, bats and carom board are also available.
Health Centre - The centre has 6 beds and 1 ICU cot along with the various facilities like ECG Machine 3 channel, Gluco meter, Electrical sterilizer, ICU Cot, Oxymeter and various others. First Aid and medicine for some emergency cases are provided for students and staff. The Health Centre provides outpatient treatment both in the morning and evening. The services of a Medical Officer and Para-Medical Personnel are utilized. The emergency cases are treated and if required, are transferred to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Kadapa for better treatment by university ambulance.
Guest House - The guest house of the university is a modern, two-storied building located just behind the Pulivendula-Kadapa main road. Apart from 53 rooms, 4 suites are available and two among them are air conditioned, the Guest House has a sixty seater committee room and a large Dining Hall attached with a conference hall. Also on the ground floor is a visitors' lounge cum reading room where guests can spend their leisure time.
Day Care Centre – It has been established to help working parents while they pursue their job or academic careers. Children up to 6 years are allowed to join the day care.
