About Indian Institute of Information Technology - IIIT Sri City

Indian Institute of Information Technology, Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh (IIIT Sri City), is an Autonomous Institute of National Importance setup by Government of India (MHRD), Government of Andhra Pradesh and Industry Partners (represented by Sricity Foundation) as a not-for-profit Public Private Partnership (N-PPP) Society. IIIT, Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh is funded by Government of India (50%), Government of AP (35%) and Industry Partners (15%). Indian Institute of Information Technology, Chittoor, AP is expected to meet operating expenses from tuition fees, grants, sponsorships and donations. Additionally, the Government of Andhra Pradesh has lent support to the institute by granting 70 acres of land for setting up the Campus. The land allocated by GOAP for the IIIT campus is in Ramachandrapuram Village, Satyavedu Mandal, Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh. The campus of the IIIT, AP, will be located on Jnan Marg off Sri City Central Expressway. The Institution Infrastructure is under development as of 2014. While the new campus is being built, the Institute is functioning from the campus of Institute for Financial management Research at Sri City. The IIIT land comes under the administrative purview of Industrial Area Local Authority (IALA) Sri City. Sri City is a Planned Integrated Business City (Township) located 55 km North of Chennai on NH-5 along the border of Andhra Pradesh (AP) and Tamil Nadu (TN) States of India.

IIIT Chittoor, Sri City is run by the Board of Governors of The IIIT Society. The Board of Governors include representatives of MHRD, Government of Andhra Pradesh (GoAP) and Industry Partners; eminent people from academia, industry and civil society. The IIIT is a Research & Teaching Institute focused on the core areas of Information Technology: Computer Science, Electronics and Communications, and their applications in other domains. The institute has been setup for the development of Technology and Applications, which can be transferred for use to Industry and Society.

IIIT Sri City Location

The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Chittoor is about 65 kms. from Chennai, 18 kms. from Sullurpeta, 75 kms. from Temple town of Tirupathi and 45 kms from Srikalahasti.

Reaching IIIT, Andhra Pradesh

1.  From Chennai International Airport – The Institute is at a driving distance of 80 kms. which is about 1 hour 35 minutes from Chennai International Airport.

2.  From Tirupathi International Airport – The Institute is at a driving distance of 74 kms. which is about 1 hour 25 minutes from Tirupathi International Airport.

3.  From Chennai Central Railway Station - The Institute is at a driving distance of 68 kms. which is about 1 hour 20 minutes from Chennai Central Railway Station.

4.  From Sullurpeta Railway Station - The Institute is at a driving distance of 22 kms which is about 20 minutes from Sullurpeta Railway Station. It is also the easiest way to reach the institute. Sullurpeta is on Vijayawada-Chennai line. Most of express trains from Kolkata, New Delhi and Hyderabad stop here. From the railway station one can take an auto or APSRTC bus to reach Sricity. The auto would cost around Rs.110/- and bus fare would be around Rs.12/- as of 2015.

5.  From Tada Railway Station - The Institute is at a driving distance of 9 kms. which is about 10 minutes distance from Tada Railway Station. Tada is closest Railway Station to Sricity while travelling from Chennai Central. There are local trains running almost every hour to and from Chennai Central to Tada Railway Station. Travel time by Chennai Local Train to Tada is about 1 hour 40 minutes.

6. Reaching by Bus - From Koyambedu Bus Station (CMBT -Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus) – The Institute is at a distance of 56 Kms. There are plenty of buses to Tada from Koyambedu Bus Station, one such bus is Bus No.114 - Chennai to Kalahasthi which has a stopover at Tada, which would cost around Rs.46/- as of 2015.

7. Reaching by Taxi - Sri City is exactly 56 Kms. from Chennai Koyambedu Bus Station (CMBT - Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus). The approximate return Cab/Taxi fare from Chennai would be Indica (4 people) (Rs)1,400, Qualis (6 people) (Rs)2,000 as of 2015.

IIIT Sri City Facilities

Green Campus - Sri City where the IIIT is located is planned on Sustainability Principles. All off energy consumed by municipal services comes from Sricity Solar Farm. Sri City encourages its tenants to use a minimum of 40% of energy from renewable sources (Solar). Sri City also encourages electric vehicles for movement within Sri City. The IIIT will endeavour to function on 100% Solar Energy from neighbouring Solar Farms. It will also encourage all IIITians to use electrical vehicles for movement within the Campus. Most of the water requirement will be met through rainwater-harvesting and re-use of treated waste-water.

Hostels - The institute is a Residential Institute and it is compulsory for all students to stay on campus. Separate hostels for boys and girls are available with necessary facilities. Students can access Campus Network and computing facilities from their hostel rooms.

Library - The Library has a good collection of Reference Books, Text Books, Technical reports, Standards and Literature books. The Institute has subscribed to all leading journals/magazines.

Digital Library - IIIT will have a digital library, it will be an online archive of useful software, books and tutorials. Students can download any permitted software from this resource. There will be many textbooks and reference books available in the digital format as well. Many recorded lectures will also be made available online for students to use.

Dining Facilities - The Institute will have multiple messes serving a choice of healthy and nutritious food. The students will be free to choose any mess of their choice. There will also be a canteen which would serve snacks, non-veg food, fast food, juices, milk products and snacks. As of 2015, the Institute has one Mess serving mix of South and North Indian food. This mess is managed by a committee comprising students, staff and faculty.

Education Loans - The Institute ensures that the deserving students get education loan from scheduled banks at attractive terms.

Assistantships - The IIIT will provide research and teaching assistantships to qualified and deserving students.

Fee Reimbursement Schemes - IIIT being an MHRD funded institution; students will be eligible for various schemes like those given to SC/ST/OBC, EBC students.

Laboratories - The Institute has air-conditioned, specialized, high-end equipment in each laboratory, as needed in research and development projects.

Computers - The Institute has air-conditioned computer labs and work stations. Every student from 2nd year onwards is required to have his/her own laptop computer to enable the student complete the assigned work. For those students who cannot afford to buy a laptop computer, the institution will help them with a loan facility. The loan has to be repaid once the student gets into employment.

Networking - The Institute is Wi-Fi enabled. All buildings including the hostels and all points of interest will be connected through a high-speed fiber-optic network. Students can access Campus-Network and computing facilities from their laptop computers anywhere in the campus.

Sports - Sri City is the most appropriate place for outdoor enthusiasts as the SriCity Outdoor and Adventure Club organizes weekly programs for Trekking, Bicycling, Camping, Kayaking, Photography, Bird Watching and Star Grazing. The institute encourages students to actively participate in at least one sporting activity based on his/her individual aptitude. Facilities are provided for cricket, volley ball, soccer, basket-ball, table tennis, badminton, swimming etc. Apart from this, the students will have access to the upcoming international-size cricket ground and golf course as well

Gym - Gym facilities for men and women with modern equipment and a physical trainer will be available near hostels.
