Vignan University (VU) is a private University located in the Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh. The institution was established as Vignan Engineering College in 1997 and was affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad as a part of the Vignan Foundation for Science, Education & Research. It was conferred the status of a Deemed University by the University Grants Commission, Government of India in 2008 and was renamed Vignan University. It is funded by Vignan Group. The university is unique in the sense that 75% of the admissions into the various courses offered by the Vignan University shall be made through V-SAT. Admissions for the remaining 25% of the seats will be left to the discretion of the University Management. VU also provides academic programmes which enable candidates to jump start their careers. The course enables students to advance their understanding not only in their chosen Technical stream, but also provides for the study of Humanities and Management subjects. A student therefore will be studying, a mix of courses with Engineering, Advanced Communication Skills, Social Sciences, Soft Skills & Managerial subjects, right from the 1st Semester. After receiving such a broad exposure in different areas, the student will narrow down & specialize further in the field of his choice from 5th semester onwards with the assistance of University’s Career Guidance & Counselling Cell. Hence, each student at the time of graduating will have not only established but also partially realized his goal. The institute also caters to aspiring candidates for Civil Services by providing optional subjects required for UPSC exams from 2nd year onwards. The institution has been ratified and accredited with an ‘A’ grade by the country’s Apex academic bodies like NAAC & NBA. Vignan is also ISO 9001: 2000 certified. The university Motto is – ‘Giving Young Dreams the wings they Need’.

Facilities

Classrooms - About 30% of classrooms are equipped with ICT learning equipment like LCD & OH Projectors.

Hostel - University offers a wide range of accommodation that is conveniently located on campus. It has more than 600 beds for boys and 400 for girls. It is also attended by a doctor and a nurse. It has facilities for first aid and minor ailments. Ambulance facilities are available round the clock. Catering services are supervised by the Hostel Committees and the menu is largely vegetarian.

Library - The Library building is completely air-conditioned with a seating capacity of about 600 students. It has more than 40,000 volumes, audio- visual materials and about 250 national & international journals. There is also a Digital library which has useful software's, books, tutorials, access to 159 online international journals. There are more than 1500 multimedia CDs available for reference. There are separate libraries for each department to provide specialized books exclusive to the concerned departments.

Laboratories – The University has various laboratories catering to the needs of various departments. Some of the laboratories are Physical Chemistry Laboratory, Mechanical Unit Operations Laboratory, Process Modeling & Simulation Lab etc.

Transportation - The University has a fleet of 32 buses, operating along two routes of Guntur and Tenali with a total seating capacity of 1800 students. The institute maintains a pool of 10 cars for meeting the transport requirements of the senior faculty. An emergency vehicle is available round the clock.

Internet Services - University intranet portal provides personalized online services and access to information and learning resources for all students. To have fast and easy access to information, 1 GBPS Wi-Fi network connection is provided round the clock. The Institute has an optical-fibre enabled LAN which connects the 32 acres campus.

E-learning - E-learning technology is used to complement traditional approaches to teaching and learning. Vignan has a range of e-learning tools which provide access to lecture materials, communication with fellow students and tutors through online discussions, web based resources in text, video, audio and image formats, online tests and assignment submission. There are 3 Internet centres, each with a 25-user facility provides for wide vistas of on-line learning.

Bank – There is a fully fledged branch of UCO Bank (Vadlamudi) located in the close vicinity of the University.

Medical Facilities – The University has a dispensary on the campus attended by a Doctor and a Nurse. It has facility for administering first-aid and treating minor ailments.

Scholarships – Vignan offers full-fee and part-fee undergraduate scholarships to the best applicants. Students with good academic track record may apply for the Vignan Scholarship Programme. The university offers merit scholarships only for students pursuing UG courses.

Recreation & Sports facility - The campus is equipped with facilities for outdoor games like Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Tennis, Basketball and 400 Meter track athletics. An indoor sports complex offers provision for indoor games like table tennis, badminton etc.

Collaboration - Vignan University has entered into a strategic relationship with Endiburgh Napier University, UK and University of Fraser Valley, Canada for Students & Faculty exchange Programme, Twining Programme etc.

Training and Placement Cell – The cell facilitates a range of activities which are effective in transforming even the most shy and diffident students. The English Language helps students to overcome their language deficiencies and develops good communication skills with standard accents. Apart from this career guidance programs, reasoning tests, aptitude tests, puzzle solving, group discussions, mock interviews, brain storming sessions, case studies etc., are organized on a regular basis. These contribute towards the holistic development of the students and makes them job ready.

Personality Development Programmes – The University conducts systematic personality development programmes right from 1st year onwards & continue till the 4th year of the engineering course. These programmes empower budding engineers with self awareness, emotional maturity, self motivation, personal grooming and other qualities.

Open Air Theatres and Seminar Halls – There are 2 spacious open air theatres with a seating capacity for 1500 to 2000 students used during co-curricular and extracurricular activities. Similarly, there are 2 seminar halls, each having a seating capacity for 250 people. Each seminar hall is fitted with LCD Projector and public address system.

Alumni association – It arranges regular interactions for its members, at least once or twice every year. The alumni give guest lecturers for the benefit of the junior students. They are also the brand ambassadors of the institution and promote the image of the institution.

Achievements

• The Institute has been consistently maintaining a pass percentage of 85 % with 60 % students securing distinctions.

• The college received an Award of Excellence from the Hon’ble Chief Minister of A.P, Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy for attaining the best placement record in the academic year 2006-2007 among the Engineering Colleges of the State.
