Krishna University is a State University recognized by Government of Andhra Pradesh. The University came into being vide Andhra Pradesh Act.No.4 off 1991, G.O’ Ms. No.89 Higher Education (U.E.II) dated 25/06/2008 and G.O Ms. No.109, Higher Education (U.E.II) department dated 14/07/2008, with the state government’s initiative at Machilipatnam, as head quarters of Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. On 23/04/08. Krishna University is named after mighty river Krishna. Krishna University is presently located at Andhra Jateeya kalasala, a famous first grade college in Machilipatnam. The university is housed in Mutnuru Krishna Rao building having 15000 sq. ft. plinth area to run the existing and planned courses. Its jurisdiction is confined to the entire Krishna district. It provides education in the fields of arts, sciences, commerce, management and technology. The internal assessment component of Krishna University is 30% in each paper. The component includes marks for attendance, performance in seminars/group discussions and home-assignments and the internal examinations.

Facilities
Ultra-modern Class Rooms - The university has ultra-modern class rooms with smart board facility, LCD projectors, internet and Intranet facilities.
Classroom Library - Classroom Library is new concept initiated by the University. Under this concept, each class room is equipped with the essential number of course books, reference tools, encyclopaedias, periodicals and journals in tune with the syllabus. These books can be referred to in the class room itself.
Internet Facility - The university also provide internet facility not only in the campus but in the class rooms as well. This enables the teachers and students to seek the information they require. The university is also providing its supporting staff with both internet and Intranet facilities to facilitate a modern administrative system.
Laboratories - The university has a number of laboratories catering to the needs of students studying varied curriculum.
Some of the Laboratories:
Reading Room - The reading room provides newspapers, magazines and journals are kept in the reading room. The students are allowed to make use of this facility only during leisure time.
Rewards - The university provide awards to outstanding students. The students who stand first in the class are included under earn while learn scheme. The services of such students will be utilized in auxiliary needs and they will be paid for their work as per the norms of the University. Computer skills and personality development classes Wherever necessary, classes will be organized to train the students in computer skills. Lectures will also be conducted to give inputs in personality development. These courses are supplemented to the regular course in several departments.
Research Programmes - Krishna University has initiated research programmes leading to the award of M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees from the year 2009-2010. To start with, extramural research programmes are introduced by the university. In this programme, the qualified research supervisors working in various scientific organizations, industries and institutions in India and abroad will be given an opportunity of registering their names as qualified guides for Krishna University to take up their research from their work places. The qualified students working in various institutions, industries, research laboratories all over the country/abroad may be permitted to register their names with the university and take up their research with the qualified research supervisors allotted to them.
Industry - Institution Linked Programmes - Industry-institution linkage promotes interaction between the institution and the industry. Industry linkages are especially important for effective “applied” or work-related education such as, aligning graduate skills with industry demand, improving educational planning and efficiency, graduate employment, labour market function, student learning and motivation. It promotes sharing of resources between educational institutions and work places.
Close Circuit Cameras - The university administration keeps a close watch in the class-rooms with the help of Close Circuit Cameras.
Extra Curricular Activities - The students are encouraged to participate in debates, seminars, workshops and to write articles in newspapers/reputed magazines.
Guest House - The university also has a guest house, a waiting hall for guests and students.
Reservations - Admission to various courses of study is made on the basis of merit, subject to the following reservations:
a. Local Candidates: 85% of the available seats in each category in both the courses ar reserved for the local candidates from the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagara Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur and Prakasa Candidates claiming reservation under this category are supposed to enclose a local candidate certificate in the appropriate form (Form given in Annexure-A).
b. Other Category Reservations:
i) Scheduled Caste (SC) : 15%
ii) Scheduled Tribes (ST) : 06%
iii) Backward Communities (BC) : 25% (A-7%; B-10%; C-1%; D-7%)
iv) Physically Handicapped (PH) : 03%
v) Sports : 0.5%
vi) NCC : 01%
vii) Cap (Children of Armed Personnel) : 02%
viii) Women : 33.3% in O.C. and in each of reservation categories
Sponsored seats are reserved for in service candidates/candidates sponsored by industry / educational / commercial establishments. The candidates seeking admission under sponsored category are required to submit the sponsorship letter/certificate at the time of counselling and pay the entire fee.
