One of the Group A Central Civil Service of India which was formed in the year 1987 is controlled by the Ministry of Defence (Directorate of Public Relations). The main responsibilities of the officers of IIS include: - Managing government's print media, electronic media, advertising agency, and act as press advisors. Besides they are also responsible for Constitution of press party, organizing press conferences, controlling official media and Organizing festivals of National and International importance, etc
IIS officials are also entrusted with the all important work of dissemination of information on government policies, programmers and activities through print, electronic, audio –visual and all the other kind of electronic media. Providing feedback on the reactions of people to the programmes and policies and of advising the government on its information policy is also one of the important functions of the officers of these services. To handle these functions is an effective manner the officers should be equipped with special training and experience especially in the field of newspaper or news agency.
