About Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramoday Vishwavidyalaya - MGCGV

Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramoday University is a specialised university as it is specialises in rural development. The university specialises in rural development through its education, research and extension activities. It is also known as Mahatma Gandhi Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidyalaya (MGCGV) but it's more popular name is Chitrakoot University. MGCGV was established on 12th Feb. 1991 on the banks of the holy river Mandakini through a separate MP Govt. Act (9, 1991) on the auspicious day of Mahashivaratri at Chitrakoot, District Satna (M.P.).

It is named after Mahatma Gandhi and it follows Gandhiji’s dream of rural development. MGCGV offers multidisciplinary higher education courses up to doctoral level in the disciplines of agriculture and animal sciences, applied sciences, environment, GIS etc. The University's jurisdiction is spread over the entire state of Madhya Pradesh. The National statutory educational bodies have recognized the academic programmes of the University. It's B.Tech. (Agricultural Engg.), B.Tech. (Food Technology), B.Tech. (Information Technology) are approved by the AICTE. As per Cut off mark for admission during the last 2 years - Admissions to the 80% of available seats in the B.Tech course are through PET/PAT ( state level exams ) and admissions to the rest 20% seats are through AIEEE (All India exam of CBSE).

1.  Rail - Chitrakoot is well connected by rail. The nearest station is Chitrakootdham Karvi (11km) located on Jhansi-Manikpur route.

2. Air - Chitrakoot is linked by air with nearest airport at Allahabad which is 120 km.

3. Road - The Chitrakoot can also be reached by road from Satna which is 80 km and is connected by rail on Delhi-Jabalpur and Rewa-Bhopal route.

Facilities

Hostels - Separate hostel facilities are available on the campus for male and female students. Additional hostels are also being added with accommodation capacity of 100 boys  and 50 girls. Off­ campus rental rooms are also available.

Central Library - The central library of the university is a sophisticated e-library, known as Jigyasa. It has a collection of 38,000 text and reference books, 1200 video-cassettes, 100 audio-cassettes and 1000 CD-ROMs. It is fully computerized and gets UGC help through INFLIBNET Programme. The library subscribes to various research journals, abstracts, magazines, journals, employment related magazines along with other national and regional newspapers. About 4, 300 National and International Research Journals & abstracts are available  under UGC INFONET Programme. An air conditioned reading room is and internet facility is on the cards.

Computer Centre - The centre has It has 300 computers and acts as a central facility. The centre houses a computer hardware laboratory and provides Internet facility for all the students.

Apprenticeship Training - University students are sent for apprenticeship to various industries, laboratories and other centres to gain practical experience.

Scholarship / Fellowship - SC/ST/OBC students are given scholarship/fellowship as per MP Govt. regulations. "Gaon ki Beti"  Yojana launched by M.P. Govt. is also available. Besides SC/ST students can avail UGC sponsored  fellowship to pursue M.Phil. and Ph.D. Studies.

Rail Concession - Student's rail concession are provided as per the directives of the Railway Ministry. Government of India.

Audio-Visual Centre - The University has an audio-visual centre, where students are trained in photography and film making. Video-Conferencing facility in the university aids in distance education.

Laboratories - The university has various laboratories catering to disciplines of science, environment and technology educational programmes. Prominent among the laboratories is the GIS Laboratory, here the students are trained in Remote Sensing and Geo-Informatics.

Agriculture Research Farm - The Faculty of agriculture has its own agriculture farm of 189 acres near to the university campus. All agricultural and land development practices are performed by the students under the guidance of subject specialist of the faculty.

The farm is divided in to 9 segments i.e.

  1. Students Entrepreneurship Farm.
  2. Vegetable Farm.
  3. Medicinal Plants Farm.
  4. Aromatic Plants Cultivation Farm.
  5. Orchard.
  6. Seed production Farm.
  7. Research Farm.
  8. Demonstration Farm.
  9. Commercial Farm and Nursery.

Distance Education - Gramodaya University provides distance mode of education in the whole of the Madhya Pradesh state. The University has established more than 100 Distance Education Centres in the state of Madhya Pradesh for imparting higher education. Distance mode programmes are imparted through regular courses, with the cover facilities of video conferencing, internet facilities and the standard study materials. .

Workshop - The University workshop is involved in repairing and housing agriculture tools, equipments along with other iron and wooden  Practical training is also imparted to engineering students.

Yoga Centre - Yoga training is compulsory for all the University students. The UGC has identified / recognised Yoga centre as a quality centre for human consciousness and Yoga Science education.

Physical Education, Sports Centre - The university provides indoor and outdoor sports facilities to increase mental alertness of the students.

Health Centre - Universitys' Ayurveda centre conducts regular health check-up and treatment of students. It has “Rasashala” to prepare medicines by Ayurvedic methods.

Music Training Centre - The centre provides aesthetic shape to the students musical aptitude. Sugam sangeet, folk music and puppetry are also some of the activities of the centre.

Assembly Hall - The University has a well-furnished assembly hall to accommodate about 250 people, where seminars, conferences and other events are organised. Besides this the University has an open theatre (Sadhbhawana Sabhagar) full of greenery with space to sit 5000 students.

Placement Facilities - Training & Placement Cell is available in the university for placement of the students. Many leading institutes and companies like Bikano foods Delhi, Pepsi Bottling Plant etc. visit the University for campus

Transport Facility - The University provides conveyance facility for the students at reasonable rates.

Canteen - Male and female hostlers have separate canteens. These cater to food and refreshment requirements of the students.
