Commerce Colleges in India are large contributors to the actual commerce of the nation as compared to the other colleges in India. Having said that it doesn’t imply that other specialised colleges do not contribute to the economy, they play more of a passive role. The active role of the commerce colleges of India is pretty clear if we see the link between human capital and economic progress. Large labour forces of well-educated professionals are groomed in various commerce colleges and the same contribute to the economy of the country when they formulate economic policies or when they set up their own businesses. The education provided here is specific; it develops the required knowledge, skills and attitudes for the successful handling of trade, commerce and industry. When the education is specific to commerce, industry etc. the institutes providing this type of education are also known as business schools in India or MBA colleges in India. The role of Commerce Colleges in India isn’t limited to just economic affairs; they are actually a good resort for those students who find science subject to be very tough and arts to be very simple.

Identifying these institutes is not a tough task even in the absence of any terminology related to commerce. These can have simple names like - St. Joseph's College and Shaheed Bhagat Singh College. Others like - Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics and K.J. Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce have a very clear indication of what they stand for? When it comes to best commerce colleges in India or top commerce colleges in India, most of these are located in Delhi. Delhi also happens to have the largest number of top government commerce colleges of India. Another noticeable fact is that most of the top private commerce colleges in India are Christian minority colleges and are centred around south India especially Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Statistics apart, the real picture of the business colleges in India is that they are lacking in meeting the international standards which devaluates the commerce graduates. The international standards haven’t been a top agenda for the Government and the UGC. The course curriculum is quite outdated and needs to be restructured in order to facilitate the utmost utility. The distribution of commerce colleges is also skewed. To say that everything is lost would be an incorrect assumption; a lot of reforms are being towards producing quality education rather than quantitive education.
