The largest number of dental schools are located in:
Even the largest number of top dental colleges in India, are concentrated in Karnataka. This shows that density of dental colleges in India is located in southern and western states. This has created an imbalance. With very few or no facilities for dental education in other states, these remain unrepresented. On the other hand colleges are mushrooming in the above states. Comparing dentist: population ratio of India to that of America, we find that India has excess of dental institutes. Yet, the majority of rural population is devoid of dental health practitioners. As per, WHO - dentist to population ratio of 1:7500 is desirable. Dentists-to-population ratio of India is about 1:10,000 (2011 figures). Such a large number of Dentists, are located largely in urban areas.
