Law Colleges in India provide students, the opportunity to pursue law as a career option. Law Colleges of India come under the purview of Bar Council of India (BCI). BCI sets standards for legal education and grants recognition to Universities whose degree in law will serve as a qualification for students to enrol themselves as advocates upon graduation. All the law schools in India which are deemed by BCI or have law courses approved by BCI are inspected by the council. As per the Legal Education Committee of BCI resolution 2011 – A law college of India is required to deposit Rs. 1,50,000/- as inspection fees for each course. The law institutes in India can initiate this process by submitting application and check Performa through Demand Draft drawn in favour of the “Bar Council of India” on any Nationalized Bank payable at New Delhi. The Legal Education Committee of the Bar Council of India also passed a resolution at its meeting held on 30th April 2010 that all law colleges, irrespective of their status (deemed / permanent/ approved), will abide and Governed by Legal Education Rules, 2008 relating “Standards of Legal Education and Recognition of Degrees in law for the purpose of enrolment as advocates” from the academic session 2010-2011.
