Yoga Courses in India never had the platform as they have acquired since a decade or so (from 2005 or so). A yoga course at an academic level and a yoga course at the training level can be differentiated. Yoga courses offered as degree courses imparted by academic institutes can be called degree based yoga courses. Yoga courses imparted by non-academic institutes which do not provide a degree can be called as yoga training courses. That was to distinguish and put forth an idea to establish a division and specificity. It is however considered that both are the same. There are yoga certification, diploma and degree based courses. At the same time there are certain Yoga associations which provide training to willing students so that they can become yoga instructors. Not to say that degree holder cannot become so, but to highlight the relevancy of the courses. For example, in certain institutes a yoga training course may not be acceptable, however an academic based one will have more acceptability. If you want a recognised academic course you can opt for Diploma in Yoga Education which is the only Teachers Training Course in Yoga recognized by the National Council of Teachers Education, Government of India. The old age yoga can also be practiced with new age online education of yoga, one such institute is – Mediyoga. Yoga courses are not necessarily undertaken for monetary profit in mind, some take it as a hobby. Many make yoga their part time profession while others have had success in making their hobby a full time job. Whether for professional objectives or otherwise yoga stands for improving individual health as well as society’s health.
