Home Science is not only a Science, it is also an Art Form which draws and synthesizes the knowledge, concepts and theories from Arts, Science and Humanities. Bachelor of Home Science is an Under Graduates Academic Degree which is awarded for course or program in the field of Home Science. Academically, it is abbreviated as B.A. (Home Sc.) or B.Sc. (Home Sc.). The Home Science curriculum is not limited to cooking, laundry and needlework but it encompasses practical training in printing, basic tailoring, interior design, cooking, dyeing etc.

B.A. (Home Science) or B.Sc. (Home Science) ?

As mentioned above Home Science is both an Art and a Science. It is the Art of managing resources efficiently and the Science of improving home life, family life and  intellectual thinking. Both these degree stand for Bachelor of Home Science. So what is the difference between B.A. (Home Science) or B.Sc. (Home Science) ? There is only a marginal difference between these two. And that difference lies in matter of certain topics being covered and the fact that B.Sc. (Home Science) will mostly require 10+2 in Science (physics, chemistry, biology, maths).

Duration - The duration of Bachelor in Home Science is 3 years covering 6 Semesters.

Eligibility

  • Bachelor of Home Science course requires a candidate to have cleared H. S. C. or STD XII examination conducted by any statutory Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination Board. Those who have taken Home Science at 10+2 are giver preference.
  • As the course is interdisciplinary in nature and students need to learn basics of physics, chemistry and biology in the first year of their graduation. Therefore, some Institutes keep the course open only for students of science background.
  • Percentage requirements vary from Institute to Institute. Some require 50% while some require lesser percentage.
  • Any other Examination that may be duly recognised by the University / executive council as equivalent to the above examination.
  • Some Institutes conduct an Entrance Test, while some Institutions admit candidates based on their previous academic record.
  • Some Institutes allow a student who has passed B.Sc. (Home Sc.) Part-I from other recognised Instituton, to be eligible for admission to B.Sc. Home Science Part II in their respective Institution.
