Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (Vivekanand Yoga Research Foundation) is the new name from February 2000 onwards. Earlier it was called Vivekananda Kendra Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (VK YOGAS) from 1986 to 2000. Earlier to that, it was Vivekananda Kendra Chikitsa Tatha Anusandhana Samiti (VK YOCTAS from 1981 to 1986). Today, it is also know as SVYASA (Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana). SVYASA is a Yoga University established under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 vide Notification Number F.9-45/2001-U.3 dated 8/5/2001 of the Government of India. It is named after Swami Vivekananda, the famous Indian monk who heralded the grandeur of Sanatana Dharma (the Laws of Creation) in the West through his epoch-making speech in the Parliament of Religions on Sep 11, 1893. SVYASA is a unique University which is a mix between an Ashram and a modern university. Classes are conducted in the Gurukul system of teaching. Yoga Courses vary from certificate courses to Degree, Diploma and Doctorate programmes at the Graduate and Post-Graduate levels. SVYASA courses have been developed by yoga masters with long years of experience. The programme at SVYASA includes Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga and Jnana yoga, as codified by Swami Vivekananda. The educational system in SVYASA is holistic, based on the consciousness-based approach of yoga systems and spiritual lore. It is not merely a bread-earning educational system but a personality-developing and world-building tool through yoga. The University is open to all persons of whatever race, religion, creed, caste, class and geographical area of the country. No test or condition is imposed as to religious belief or occupation in admitting or appointing members, students, teachers, workers or in any other connection whatsoever. No benefaction that involves conditions and obligations opposed to the spirit and objects of the University will be accepted by the University. The campus is called Prashanti Kutiram, the Abode of Peace. Lying in the lap of nature amidst greenery, the campus lies sprawling over 100 acres. Yoga Courses at our SVYASA Yoga University are recognised by the University Grants Commission, Government of India. There are about 50 Ph.Ds, 100 M.Scs and over 350 students in various branches. The univesrity has so far 6 Ph.Ds and 2 MDs from the University, one from HUA, 6 from Bangalore University. SVYASA has, over the years, standardized such Advanced Yoga techniques as CM (Cyclic Meditation), PET (Pranic Energisation Technique), MSRT (Mind Sound Resonance Technique), MEMT (Mastering the Emotions Technique), MIRT (Mind Imagery Technique), VISAK (Vignana Sadhana Kausalya) and ANAMS (Anandamrita Sinchana).

Transportation
Bangalore is connected by direct international flights including British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, Gulf Air, Thai International, Sri Lanka Airlines and Air India. (For those transiting through any other city in India in the same airlines, immigration and baggage clearance are in Bangalore). Bangalore is connected by direct national flights to all main cities in India including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta, Chennai, Hyderabad, Goa and Cochin.
Getting to the Campus (Prashanti):
To get to the campus, we recommend that you use the organisation bus. The Organisation Bus starts every day from the Bangalore Office given below at 7:00 a.m. Please be at the city office well before this time.

Facilities
Residential Facilities- SVYASA has extensive residential facilities for students undergoing courses. It has 3 hostels for men, a hostel for women besides cottages and guest rooms. It also has separate residential facilities for Therapy Participants. The accommodation is in the form of single participant rooms, double participant rooms and dormitories with housing from 4 to 10 students each. The decision relating to accommodation allotment will be the sole prerogative of the management / sub registrar. Foreign citizens will be allotted twin sharing rooms with attached bathrooms. For both types of rooms, the furnishing is sparse but includes sleeping cots, working desk as well as cupboard. The Ashram rooms are sparsely equipped, with only the basic necessities being provided in tune with the spirit of the yoga learning process.
Fooding - The Ashram routine includes three complete meals. The food is vegetarian and a Sattvik balanced South Indian diet in tune with the yogic principles of food and diet. The Ashram routine also includes a Malt break in late afternoon. No tea / coffee is provided in the Ashram. Outside food is not permitted in the Ashram. However, the Ashram has a tuck shop where students may purchase fruits or small eats.
Daily necessities - SVYP, the publication wing of SVYASA has an extension counter within the Ashram premises where students / participants may purchase assorted publications as well as their daily needs such as soap, toothbrush, mosquito repellent, bottled drinking water, yoga wear etc.
Library - The Library has the following facilities:
Central Computational Facility - A browsing centre has been set up in Vicara hall with 20 computers, printers and scanners to cater to the needs of all students and 3 computers with e-mail facilities are set up in the Communication Centre. Broad band high speed ISDN lines have come up in these places. Faculties have been provided with separate computers in their respective places.
Yoga Therapy Home - SVYASA also houses one-of-its-kind Yoga Therapy Home with a 250-bed inpatient treatment facility called Arogyadhama. This is a Yoga Research Health Home which has been envisioned for prevention and treatment of Diseases, long-term rehabilitation and for Promotion of Positive Health.
Research - With its unique position as a leading Yoga Research Organization in the World, SVYASA has been given the mandate by leading Government bodies to conduct various research projects.
Yoga Research Laboratories - These are - Neuro-Physiology Laboratory, Psychological Laboratory, Clinical Bio-Chemistry and Clinical Immunology.

Collaborations - In India, SVYASA has collaborated with many Natural Health centres including Indus Valley Ayurveda Centre in Mysore. NIMHANS or National Institute for Mental Health and Neurological Sciences and SVYASA have collaborated on many fronts too.For PhD program in Yoga and Allied Sciences, two batches are currently registered under Bangalore University, Bangalore.
Arogyadhama - It is the Yoga Research Health Home at Prashanti Kutiram. There are eight departments to treat stress-related disorders. Intense training and healing is given with individual care Bronchial Asthma, Nasal Allergy, Chronic Bronchitis Diabetes, Thyrotoxicosis, Obesity High B P, Low B P, Ischemic Heart Disease (IHD) Epilepsy, Migraine, Tension Headache Anxiety Neurosis, Depressive Neurosis Rheumatism, Low Back Pain, Arthritis Gastritis, Peptic Ulcer, Chronic Diarrhoea, Dysentery, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Eye Problems: Short Sight, Long Sight, Astigmatism, Squint, Early Cataract, Glaucoma Mental Retardation, Cerebral Palsy Cancer.
Facilities and Amenities Provided:
Events & Happenings @SVYASA - These include multi-arts festivals, concert and vocal music festivals, folk music and dance, dance, theatre, literature and visual art festivals. Events associated with spirituality, architecture, dance, health and literature are also organised.
International Yoga Conferences - These have been very popular in attracting some of the best Academia IJOY or International Journal of Yoga has been officially launched and will soon be indexed. On the IJOY website, one can read entire research papers published freely. We are hoping to make this journal a platform to bring together all researches by all Schools of Yoga.
