About Karnataka Veterinary Animal and Fisheries Sciences University

Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (KVAFSU) is an autonomous Agricultural University. It is governed by its Board of Management which regulates the polices of the University in accordance with the provision of act and statues. It was established by the Government of Karnataka via the Karnataka Act No. 9 of 2004 called 'The Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries University Act 2004' and published in the Karnataka Gazette Extra-Ordinary on the 23rd day of February, 2004. It started started functioning from 1-4-2005 The University has been exclusively set up for the development of education and learning; conduct of research and extension education and transfer the rural oriented technologies in the areas of Veterinary, Animal, Dairy and Fisheries Sciences in Karnataka. KVAFSU offers three undergraduate programmes at its' constituent colleges located in 5 campuses in Veterinary, Dairy Technology (D.Tech.) and Fisheries (B.F.Sc). KVAFSU offers Master’s degree in 24 subjects and Doctoral in 19 subjects. The logo of the University is inscribed with the slogan Farmers Friendly and Rural Oriented, which emphasizes the importance given to betterment of farming community.

Facilities

Hostel Facilities - Hostel facilities are provided at all the campuses to the extent available on first - cum first serve basis.

At the time of admission each resident has to pay one time deposit as indicated below which shall be refunded at the time of resident leaving the hostel subject to clearance of all the dues.

SC/ST/Cat - I Rs. 3,000/-.

Others Rs. 6,000/-.

In addition to the above fees at the time of admission and the start of every academic year, each resident shall have to pay the following fees:


a) Application Fee - Rs. 50/-
b) Admission Fee - Rs. 50/-
c) Sports and Reading Room Fee - Rs. 100/-
d) Upkeep and Maintenance - Rs. 150/-
e) Re-Admission Fee Rs. 55/-

Each resident shall also have to pay the following fees every month:


a) Electricity Charges: Shall be collected from the residents of respective hostels as per the University guidelines from time to time
b) Mess Charges and Fines: as announced by the Chief Warden / Warden.
c) Establishment Fee - Rs. 150/- (Not applicable to Bidar Campus).
d) Room Rent* Rs. 60/-
e) Hostel Development Fund - Rs. 40/-

* The GOI Scholarship holders are exempted from payment of room rent.

Note : The above mentioned Fees may be subject to change. It has been provided to give an estimate of the Fees to be paid.

Scholarship - One University Resident Merit scholarship (URMS) is awarded in each of the subjects under the Master's (Rs. 800/- per month) as well as Doctoral Degree Programmes (Rs. 1,200/- per month) during each Academic year and is restricted only to those students who have graduated from the University Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore / Dharwad. However, Departmental candidates and sponsored candidates who are drawing salaries are not eligible for URMS. All SC/ST and other Category students are required to compulsorily apply for Government of India / Government of Karnataka Scholarships.

Directorate of Research  - This Directorate regulates the research activities in the Veterinary, Animal, Fisheries and Dairy Sciences faculty across the constituent Colleges and Research and Information Centres of the University. The total number of externally funded research projects under operation during 2007-08 are 11 in Veterinary Science, 19 Animal Science, 44 Fisheries Science and 2 in Dairy Science. The research in Veterinary Science is oriented towards pharmacokinetic, Pharmacological evaluation of cattle urine, efficacy of intrauterine herbal agents, toxicology studies, development of DNA & Bio-film based vaccines against mastitis, studies on culicoides midges, plant induced aetiology and obscure diseases of cattle and buffaloes.

Centre for Wild Life Veterinary Medicine Kudigi, Coorg District - The Institution is being established at Doddaluvara village, Somwarpet taluk, Kodagu district, which is located about 4 km from Hebbale on Somwarpet Road (15 km from Kushalnagar).

Directorate of Extension - The Directorate organises and coordinate various extension programmes and outreach activities for the benefit of farming community. It also undertakes transfer of technologies and popularization of developed/refined technologies for the benefit of farming community.

Reservation of Seats - Reservation of seats in favour of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes / Category-I and Other Backward Categories will be ensured as per the reservation policy of the Government of Karnataka. Candidates who claim reservation should furnish a valid certificate issued by the competent authority.

Achievements

  • The University has released Amur common carp and Swarndhara chicken varieties for the benefit of farmers.
