PES University is a State Private University established under Karnataka Act No. 16 of 2013, on November 19, 2013 as per notification of Government of Karnataka. PES University has been established by People’s Education Society (PES) which was established in 1972 at Bangalore. Earlier, PES University existed as an institute with the name PES Institute of Technology. The University is recognized by UGC, New Delhi and it is a member of International Association of Universities (IAU). PES University campus sprawls over 25 lush acres. ES University has multiple campuses, some of which are - PESIT South Campus and PES Institute of Medical Sciences and Research at Kuppam. Together these comprise over 3.5 million square feet of built up area. All the campuses have the entire required infrastructure like computing and research facilities, laboratories, fully equipped workshops hostels, cafeterias with sports and recreation facilities. PES is focused on four main educational areas - Engineering, Medicine, Management and Life Sciences. The institutions offer both foundation courses in these areas, as well as specialization with a Bachelors, Master or a PhD Degree.
Facilities at PES University
Hostels – There are separate hostels for girls and boys and rooms are available on single or double, multi – sharing basis. The hostels also provide various common recreational facilities apart from other basic facilities.
Library - The libraries at PES occupy over 50,000 square feet and provide students with access to a vast repository of resources, including books and periodicals. The libraries remain open until midnight on all days. During the examinations, they are open 24 hours. Completely automated library management systems make it possible to borrow books at any time of the day or night, copies ensure that resources are easily available for reference in the library. In addition to these resources, faculty members dynamically upload all their lecture and research notes on the PES Intranet. These are available to the students with the simple keying in of a password.
Computing Facilities - There are about 40 different computer laboratories across the campuses which have over a thousand computers for students and staff. The university provides 10 MBPS (1:1) bandwidth dedicated line with 24 hours internet connectivity (Wi-Fi enabled). The local internet, 1000 MBPS switched network, provides an interactive platform for sharing resources and building communities.
Scholarships - Commitment to Science Scholarships honours the best science student in the grades 10 and 12. The selection of the candidate selected is recommended by the school.
Alumni - PES has a strong alumni association whose network spreads awareness and recognition of the PES brand. It also creates opportunities for and guiding current students. PES Alumni contribute time, energy and expertise to help the PES fraternity grow, develop and prosper. Alumni pool skills and apply available resources to enhance personal and career development for their members.
CORI - Crucible of Research and Innovation (CORI) was established in 2010 to carry out multidisciplinary research. The engineers here belong to some of the most prestigious government organizations in the area of space technology and defence among others. It helps students evolve their expertise with multi-disciplinary approach to meet the challenges faced by the industry in innovative ways. Many organizations which are known for their cutting edge research capabilities and pioneering work have entrusted CORI with these projects. Many organizations rely on CORI’s team of scientists and engineers to form a working concept and develop prototypes to address their requirement. CORI is involved in creating an idea, forming a working concept, building a prototype, and solving the problem.
Cafeteria – The cafeteria, here is modern with open kitchen and airy patio. It is equipped to serve hundreds of students a day and offers both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.
Restaurants - There are also a number of restaurants on campus offering a variety of different cuisine – from North Indian menu to South Indian specialties.
Industry on Campus – PES University constantly seeks to provide students / faculty with opportunities to apply knowledge in the real world. This ensures that they have first-hand experience of the challenges and issues they will need to address later. The scope for industry interaction is greatly increased by the fact that a number of leading firms have offices right here on the PES Campuses. PES University has four companies operating inside the campus. These are mainly working in the incubation mode which may come out with their proto types to launch commercial operations. PESIT has been encouraging the students and staff to use the furnished facility on campus for their incubation ideas.
Community Service - PES has a number of active organizations and programs for community outreach on campus. The PES Community Service Program has adopted 12 rural government schools and is working with them at two levels: The first is to improve infrastructure like buildings, sanitation facilities, and drinking water, libraries and sports facilities. The second is to upgrade teaching skills, train faculty members and provide teaching aids. PES students visit these schools every weekend and monitor progress. Free medical check-ups are carried out for thousands of underprivileged people and surgeries are performed without any charge. Other effective Community Service schemes include the National Cadet Corps, National Service Scheme, Primary Education Program, Community Housing, Extensive Tree Plantation program and the Rural Health Program.
Vocational Training Programs - The University runs Vocational Training Programs for Class X dropouts. This involves training programs in machining, carpentry, plumbing, TV repair and other vocational skills that help these young people find feasible careers and achieve economic independence.
Clubs and Activities - PES students get to develop leadership and team skills, pursing their interests through diverse organizations when they form or join a club or an activity.
Auditorium – The auditorium is fully air conditioned and provides a platform for a wide spectrum of events
Sports – The University offers facilities for various sports like cricket, basketball, athletics, yoga etc.
