Jain University was established in 1990 as Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College (SBMJC). It was declared Deemed to be University under section 3 of the UGC act, 1956 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Union Government vide notification No.F-9-57/2007-U.3 (A) Ministry of HRD, GOI December 19, 2008 & July 24, 2009. Jain University is promoted by the Jain University Trust. The Jain University Trust is managed by the JGI Group. The University offers over 60 innovative programmes at the Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Research levels. It offers degrees in Languages, Social Sciences & Humanities, Physical & Life Sciences, Engineering Science and Technology, Management and Commerce. Research programmes at Jain University are offered under all the 6 Faculties. Ph.D. and M.Phil. Programmes are undertaken in 20 disciplines, with most of the researchers involved in interdisciplinary study. It has 5 Campuses and about 300 acres in Kanakapura, which is the Unitary Campus of JU.

Jain Shelters – It is the residential area of the university. It is located across South Bangalore and surrounded by lush greenery. There is separate accommodation for boys and girls. It has spacious and well laid out rooms with attached bathrooms, kitchen facilities, regular medical check-ups, medical insurance, a telephone and a state-of-the-art gymnasium etc.
Library - The library has a collection of books numbering up to 30000, as well as CDs, DVDs and journals. More than 120 National & International periodicals access to other academic libraries in city.
Laboratories - University laboratories are fully equipped with tools. The Labs include Microbiology, Biotechnology, Botany, Plant Tissue Culture, Genetics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Electronics.
International Students - The Office of International Admissions of Jain University is the contact point for international students. Foreign / NRI / PIO students from abroad (outside India) will generally be admitted at the beginning of the academic year commencing in June / July every year. The admissions are based on merit and marks/grades obtained in the qualifying examination. The international students are not required to take the entrance examination except for B.B.M. Programme conducted by Jain University that are generally conducted for resident Indian students. Information Technology Services- The University provide a comprehensive computer-based service in the IT Centre with high-speed internet access including Wi-Fi connectivity.

Gymnasium - The Jain University provide students with excellent Gym and yoga facilities.
Sports- Jain University provides world-class infrastructure for sports in its sprawling campus of 160 acres. It has SPINTOOR – An Indoor stadium with a total built-up area of 80,000 sq feet.

Radio Active – It is the Community Radio (90.4Hz) of the university which creates awareness about health, environment, development, scientific awareness, women, social issues etc., in turn seeking to inform, educate, while entertaining the public.
Careers and Placement Service - It maintains long-established relationships with business and industry. It offers advice and information on a range of careers issues which is beneficial both for the employers recruiting on the campus and students as well. Some of the companies that have recruited the university’s students include - Accenture, Target, Arihant Capital Markets, Tech Mahindra etc.
