University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Raichur is a University specialising in Agriculture Education, Research and Extension. UAS, Raichur was established as there was a need and demand for setting up an exclusive University for Agricultural Sciences, furthermore inimitable climatic conditions and farming activities encouraged the establishment. The initiation for new Agricultural University at Raichur began through a letter by Government of Karnataka, dated 17-12-1999) directing University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad to submit a feasibility report on the proposal. An expert committee was constituted (dated 5-1-2000) which not only realized the need for new Agricultural University but also recommended the proposal. The cabinet approved the proposal for establishment of Agricultural University at Raichur, with an allocation of rupees five crore during 2008-09 academic year on 26-9-2008.
UAS-R was carved out of the Agricultural University, Dharwad which was itself carved out of the Agricultural University Bangalore. The College of Agriculture situated at Raichur in North – Eastern dry zone of Karnataka was established in the year 1984 under the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore for offering B.Sc. (Agri.) Degree Programme. With the establishment of the second Agricultural University at Dharwad during 1986, this College was brought under the purview of the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad. Similarly, the Agricultural Engineering Institute (AEI) started at Raichur during 1969 for offering Diploma Programme in Agricultural Engineering was upgraded to the status of College of Agricultural Engineering in 1987 to offer B.Tech. in Agriculture Engineering. The Postgraduate programmes in the disciplines of Agriculture and Agricultural Engineering were started during the year 1995-96. Looking into the past remarkable achievements and the needs of the region related to addressing the various problems of agriculture and agricultural development, the Third University of Agricultural Sciences Raichur in the state was established during 2009.
UASR has under its jurisdiction the districts of Bidar, Kalaburgi, Raichur, Bellary, Koppal and Yadgir. The University covers three Agro-climatic Zones, viz., North Eastern Dry Zone, North Eastern Transitional Zone and Northern Dry Zone. The research needs of the farmers are catered through 11 Agricultural Research Stations located in diverse agro-ecosystem of University with 12 AICRPs and 15 externally funded ad hoc Projects. The University has two Agricultural Colleges, one Agricultural Engineering College, eleven Agricultural Research Stations, five Krishi Vigyan Kendras and six Extension Education Units. In this region paddy, cotton and chilli crops are grown under irrigated tract whereas, sunflower, pigeonpea, greengram, chickpea, sorghum, sesame, safflower etc., are grown under dryland conditions and hence this region is regarded as “Rice-cum-Pulse bowl” of Karnataka.

Facilities at University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur
Hostels - There is separate hostel facility for boys and girls. Both hostels have mess facilities. There is adequate water supply and power with a back-up generator. Other facilities include telephone, a television with a cable connection, refrigerators, iron boxes, a washing machine, a vacuum cleaner and pure drinking water unit using reverse osmosis system.
Library – The University Library has a collection of about 34,400 books, 205 current journals, of which 170 are Indian, and 315 are foreign, 6,880 back volumes, 376 reports, 386 pamphlets, 1,484 theses, and 80 CD-Rom’s. E-journals and digital library facilities are also provided to the students.
Seed Unit - The University has established nine seed processing plants and seed godowns in different Agricultural Research Stations that comes under the university covered six districts. These units are involved in quality seed production and technology transfer through supply of quality seeds to the farming community by giving more emphasis on Seed Village Programme.
DOE - The Directorate of Extension of the University of Agricultural Sciences is involved in transfer of technology in the field of Agriculture and allied activities. Extension service brings scientific agricultural and allied technology developed at the Research Stations to the farmers’ field. It facilitates in bridging the technological gaps exiting between the farmers and Research Stations and enhances sustainable net income of the farmer by taking all the activities on the farm into consideration and by integrating them while treating the whole farm as one unit. This directorate carries its activities through six Krishi Vigyan Kendras and four Agricultural Extension Education Centres which are working at the grassroots level. The farming community can avail the services of the Directorate of Extension to get the solutions to the problems encountered in Agriculture and related activities.

KVK’s – Krishi Vikas Kendra’s are involved in technology assessment, refinement and demonstration by providing critical inputs to the farmers which enable them to sustain their productivity.

Sports - The campus offers a wide range of sports and extracurricular activities to refresh the mind. Multi gym facility is also available.
Consumer Store - College has consumer store which has all the necessary things for students and staff etc.
DTP and Reprographic Centre - A DTP and reprographic centre is also present in the campus.
Canteen - There is canteen facility in the campus.
Health Centre - Health centre facility takes care of the student’s health.
