Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University (VSKU) is a State University established by the Government of Karnataka under the Karnataka State Universities Act 2000. It is an affiliating university with about 100 affiliated colleges offering both undergraduate and post graduate programs. The university covers the districts of Bellary and Koppal. The region under the jurisdiction of the university is considered economically and educationally backward compared to national and state average. Hence the university endeavours to embark on innovative means of higher education in order to make it both qualitative and affordable.
VSKU has two post graduate campuses.
1. Jnana Sagara – It is the main campus and is located at Vinayaka Nagar, at NH 63, Hospet Road, Bellary. The campus is spread over an area of about 100 acres, houses all the key administrative departments of the university as well as 14 post graduate departments. The city of Bellary is well connected by both road and rail.
2. Jnana Sarovara – It is the second campus and is located at Nandihalli in Sandur Taluka of Bellary District. This campus is about 60 kms. away from the main campus. It has a Post Graduate centre which offers various courses. The centre was started in the year 1974 by Karnatak University.
The university is named after the great Emperor of Vijayanagara dynasty – ‘Sri Krishnadevaraya'. The logo statement adopted by the Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University is ‘Jnana Dasoha’, ‘Dasoham’ in Sanskrit means ‘Donating generously to the needy’. The University aims to do the same by imparting education and knowledge to the people of this area.

Facilities at Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University
Hostels - The University provides separate hostel facilities for girls and boys on the main campus. At PG centre, Nandihalli, accommodation is also provided for all the students.
Library - The University Library is located in the central building of the University. It is equipped with about 10000 books and 90 National and International journals. The library has got 25 computer systems connected with internet facilities. A separate Book Bank for SC, ST and Minority community students has also been maintained in the Library. Few Departments have also maintained their own Library with rare books.
Skill Development Programme – The University, in collaboration with Karnataka Jnana Ayoga and Karnataka Skill Development Corporation offers Skill Development Programme. These are especially meant to equip students from economically and socially backward areas, with soft skills and enhance their personality in order to meet the needs of industry and institutions.
Computer Centres – The University has established a Computer Centre at the library and in a few Departments. The computers systems are connected with internet facility. All the students can make use of internet facility.
Wifi - The University also provide Wi-Fi facility to the individual staff members.
Cafeteria - There is a small cafeteria located in the main campus to meet the basic requirements for food and beverages during working hours.
Health Care Unit - There is medical centre in the campus. Doctors from Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences, Bellary visit the campus to meet the medical needs of students and staff. In case of emergency and specialized treatment the patients are referred to Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Science, Bellary which is very near to main campus. At PG centre Nandihalli, well experienced and specialized doctor visits the campus regularly.
Sports Wing - A separate sports wings is created provides students an opportunity participate and excel themselves in the at various levels of sports competition.
Banking Services - The canara bank has a branch in the University, which provides banking and ATM facilities.
Postal Services - India Post is running a Post Office, with savings/recurring deposits, telephone and Speed Post services at the university.
Transport Services - The KSRTC plies city buses to the campus from the city with a frequency of 20 minutes. The campus is about 8 kms. from the Central Bus Station and 6 kms. from the City Railway Station
K-SET Nodal Centre - The UGC has prescribed that a person aspiring to become an Assistant Professor in Universities / Colleges has to qualify in NET (National Eligibility Test) / SET (State Eligibility Test). The UGC and Government of Karnataka have identified Vijayanagara Sikrishnadevaraya University as a Nodal centre to conduct Karnataka SET (KSET) for Lecturership.
SC-ST Cell - A Separate cell, headed by a senior professor, has been constituted to look after the welfare of SC and ST Students. The cell supports the students for getting financial assistance, providing career guidance and in getting benefits that are extended by the government from time to time.
Minority Students Cell - The cell has been created to help the students belonging to minority communities in their career guidance and getting benefits extended by the government.
Women Grievances Redressal Cell - This cell look in to various women related issues and in solving their problems.
Red Cross - The University is the member of Karnataka Red Cross Society. Most of the colleges affiliated colleges are also members. The Red Cross Unit has a nodal officer and coordinates various activities to look after effective implementation of Community Oriented Service for Society.
National Service Scheme - The University has also two NSS units which take part in various community oriented activities.
Conference Hall – It is furnished to conduct various curricular and co-curricular activities. The students use this hall for various academic programmes, cultural programmes and competitions.
