M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (MSRUAS) is a Multiple Disciplinary University as it provides courses of Arts, Engineering, Fashion, Medical, Management and related peripheral courses. MSRUAS came into existence in December 2013 when Gokula Education Foundation (Medical) trust GEF (M), a Public Charitable Trust established in the year 1980, felt the need to reach wider base of people. The University was created by integrating the M.S. Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies, M.S. Ramaiah College of Hotel Management, M.S. Ramaiah College of Pharmacy, M.S. Ramaiah Dental College and the M.S. Ramaiah Advanced Learning Centre. These are now faculties of the University. M. S. Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences ancestry can be traced back when Sri. M. S. Ramaiah, an entrepreneur and visionary started Gokula Education Foundation under which the first institution, M.S. Ramaiah College of Engineering was formed, various institutes coming under the trust are managed by kins of Sri. M. S. Ramaiah.
The university follows Proctoral System, under which students are guided periodically on registration for credits, their studies, review of attendance and performance, reporting the attendance and performance to the parents. Every undergraduate student is assigned to a proctor and a proctor is a member of the faculty of the department to which the student belongs to. The University’s logo has two Swans, a Book and a Lamp as graphic elements with the words “Jnanam Vignyanam Cha Bhakthisahitham” written underneath. The Sanskrit word for Swan is hamsa or hansa, and is the vehicle of Goddess Saraswati, the Goddess of Wisdom. The Swan symbolizes purity par excellence and fidelity. The two Swans represent symbol of life, fertility and beauty. The Book represents the Knowledge and the Lamp with the rays represents devotion and fulfilment. The logo as a whole represents the objective of the University to generate and disseminate knowledge for the larger good of the society we live in.
Hostel - The students taking admissions with Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Art and Design, Management and Commerce, and Science are required to apply for the accommodation in the Peenya Campus and students belonging to other faculties can opt to stay in the Gnanagangothri Campus. In the Hostels, large LCD TVs have been mounted in the Lounges with DTH connection. The hostels maintain book libraries where novels and other reading materials are available.
Internships and Placements – The Placement Office finds internships and employments for its students in the various professional organisations with opportunities for growth. Those students who interested in applying for internships and on campus placements can meet the head student placements, welfare and career advice. The office has a database of companies who recruit fresh graduates, it matches student qualification with the company requirements, helps in creating of Student CVs, Organising Interview for students etc.
Social Service Programmes - The University organises 3 day Service to Society programme annually. Every year, the University plans a number of programmes for faculty and students to take part and offer their free services. This is mandatory for every student and staff member of the University. The programme will be announced well in advance and will be coordinated by the sports director
Sports and Games - The University has Football, Cricket, Basket Ball, Volley Ball, Throw Ball, Ball Badminton Courts and indoor facilities like Table Tennis, Chess and Carrom. Every year Annual Athletic meet is held and students are encouraged to take part in this Athletic meet. Also the sports department conducts inter class, inter departmental, and inter faculty sports competitions. The University Gymnasium has facilities like Tread Mills, Multi Gym and Weight Lifting. The Yoga Centre of the University trains the students on modern Yoga Exercises and meditation.
Cultural Activities - The University organises Cultural competitions amongst its students some of which are quiz, debate, essay writing, singing, dancing, music, drama and many such activities.
Alumni - Every student of MSRUAS must register with Alumni Association of MSRUAS-Sampark. The student placement officer is in-charge of Alumni Association. Every year Alumni day is celebrated during the convocation week.
Recreation - For all the student rooms Wi-Fi Connectivity has been provided. News Papers and weeklies are available in the Lounges. There are many hobby clubs in the University for Students to participate and develop. Each club is run by a student coordinator. The University also conducts Tours and Excursions periodically for the benefit of the students. The director student placement, welfare and career advice will organise such tours and excursions.
