Fisheries Science is a field of Science which is involved in managing, catching, processing, marketing and conservation of Fish. It is an interdisciplinary field, drawing information with other interrelated fields like Oceanography, Ecology, biology, Economics and Management. Bachelor of Fisheries Science is an Under Graduate Academic Degree awarded for a course of program in the field of Fisheries Science. It is abbreviated as B.F.Sc. or B.Sc. (Fisheries). Both these degrees stand for Bachelor of Fisheries Science and are not different from each other. The course curriculum of Fisheries Science course is structured to study habits and breeding of various species of fish. It also involves farming and husbandry of important fishes and aquatic organisms in fresh water, brackish water and any marine environment.

Duration - The duration of B.Sc. (fisheries) is 4 years. There are a number of semesters which are mostly 8 in number.

Eligibility

  • To pursue a B.Sc. (Fisheries) or B.F.Sc degree, a candidate needs to be 10+2 pass in science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as subjects.
  • The candidate also needs to appear for an all India Level Common Entrance Test conducted by ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research), New Delhi, to get admission in various Central Institute of Fisheries.
  • Age limit is Minimum 17 Years and Maximum 20 Years.
