About Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth

Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, comprising of Padmashree Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune, was accorded the status of University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, vide Notification No. F.9-39/2001-U.3 dated 11th January 2003 of the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Secondary & Higher Education, New Delhi and (ii) Notification No.F6-9/2003 (CPP-I) dated 24/01/2003 by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. Padmashree Dr. D.Y. (Dnyandeo Yashwantrao) Patil, a well known educationist and philanthropist from Kolhapur, located in the state of Maharashtra, is the founder president of D. Y. Patil Educational Academy, Ramrao Adik Education Society and Dr. D. Y. Patil Pratishthan, D.Y. Patil Education Society and Continental  Medicare Foundation. D.Y. Patil Education Society was established in the year-1987 with the mission to provide best quality education in the area of health sciences comparable with the best institutions in the world. The Padmashree Dr D.Y. Patil University comes under the administrative jurisdiction of the University of Pune. It operates under the rules and regulations of the Pune University. Though the University started with one constituent unit i.e., the Medical College in January 2003, it has now seven constituent colleges/Institutions, offering a variety of programmes.

Hostel Accommodation
- Hostel and Mess facilities are available to those who wish to avail the same.

Libraries - The college libraries lend technical books and journals both for reference and home reading. Apart from the college libraries, the University also has a Central Library. The spacious Central Library has a large number of titles and regularly subscribes to numerous national and international newspapers, journals and magazines of interest to the students.

Clinics and Laboratories - There is a suite of laboratories and clinics, each dedicated to a particular area of specialization. Development of the laboratories and clinics has been consistent with the acknowledged expertise existing within the department and is focused on the methodologies involved. The University has made considerable investment in each of these facilities.

Research - The Teachers of the University are encouraged to undertake innovative and relevant research to spread value-added knowledge. Majority of the Teachers are involved in research and have presented Research Papers in reputed Journals and conferences. The statistics provided on the following pages will give the clear idea not only of the quantity but also of the quality.

International Students - A person belonging to NRI / PIO / FN category is not required to appear at the AIET.However, he/she shall submit a separate application, in the specifically prescribed form, available in the office of Vidyapeeth and on the Vidyapeeth website. A committee, appointed by the competent authority for the purpose, shall admit candidates on the basis of inter se merit of the applicants, (decided on the basis of the academic record of the candidate, the standing of the institution from which the candidate has obtained the entry qualifications, etc). Under the NRI, PIO and FN categories, only those students who have studied and passed the qualifying examination from schools and / or colleges located in foreign countries (all countries other than India) shall be considered. This will include the students studying in schools and colleges situated in the foreign countries, even if the concerned school / college is affiliated to any Board of Secondary Education or a university in India. However, wards of NRIs, PIOs or FNs, who are studying for the qualifying examination in schools located in India, are excluded.

In this context, the bonafide NRIs, PIOs and Foreign Nationals are defined as follows:

  • NRI - An NRI is a person who is "not a resident" or who is "not ordinarily resident". A person is treated as "not ordinarily resident" (i) if he /she has been resident in India for less than 182 days in the year preceding the date of application; or (ii) If he /she has been in India for less than 365 days during the four years immediately preceding the date of application.
  • PIO - A PIO is a person having foreign citizenship (except Pakistan and Bangladesh) within NRI status, but who holds a foreign passport at the time of sending application or at the time of consideration of admission and during the period of his study for MBBS and whose one / both parents or anyone / both grand parents is (or was) / are (or were) citizen(s) of India by virtue of the provisions of the Constitution of India or Section 2(b) of Citizenship Act 1955 (Act No. 57 of 1955).
  • FN - An FN is a person having citizenship of a foreign country (any country other than India) and not having the status "NRI" and / or "PIO".

Achievements

  • The Vidyapeeth has been accredited with ‘A’ Grade by NAAC with a CGPA of 3.08 in September 2009 for the period of five years.
  • The Medical College is one of the few colleges in India that was allotted post-graduate seats immediately after the first batch of MBBS students graduated.
  • The MBBS degree of the Medical College has been recognized by the Malaysian Medical Council making graduates of the college eligible for registration and practice in Malaysia.
  • The Dental College has received ‘A’ Grade from NAAC in 2007. It was then only the second institution in India to be so graded.
  • The BDS degree of the Dental College has been recognized by the Malaysian Dental Council making graduates of the college eligible for registration and practice in Malaysia.
  • The Medical and Dental Colleges have together secured the maximum number of student research projects from the ICMR – 10 in 2006, 33 in 2007, 26 in 2008 and 17 in 2009.
  • Deemed University offers diverse spectrum of courses ranging from Diploma to Super-Speciality Courses in the Faculty of Medicine and Ph.D. in other faculties.
