About Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University

Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University (SGBAU) is a State Government University established on 1st May, 1983, the same day as Maharashtra Day and Worker’s Day. It was named Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University in the year 2005. The university is named after Sant Gadge Maharaj or Gadge Baba, a saintly social reformer. This University geographically covers the western Vidarbha belt i.e., five districts – Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Buldhana and Washim of Maharashtra State. There are about 413 colleges affiliated with it. SGBAU is recognised under Section 12(B) of UGC Act. The University is also an associate member of Association of Commonwealth Universities, London (U.K.). The university receives funding from agencies like UGC, DST, AICTE, DRDO etc. It has facilities to offer post-graduate and advanced education in Computer, Biotechnology, Business Management, Law and degree courses in Chemical Technology. The campus is spread over 470 acres and has variety of medicinal plants along with others. It has developed five water ponds under rain-water harvesting.

3.  Open Book - It denotes learning, scholarship and wisdom. 1983 is inscribed on it to show the year of establishment.

4.  Ears of grain – Located below the circle, it indicates plentifulness.

5.  Sanskrit Subhashita - It signifies liberation through knowledge.

Facilities at SGBAU

Hostels - The University has two Boys’ hostels and three Girls’ hostels providing accommodation to more than 400 students. It also has a University Guest House, which is comfortable and well-furnished and has more than 15 rooms with dining facilities. Further, the University also has residential facility for limited number of teaching faculties.

Library - The University Library building is located in the midst of the university having 8094 sq. meters. built up area. The library has rich collection on science and Technology, Social Science, Management, Education, Physical education and Home science. It covers Books, Reference Books, E-books, Journals, Theses, Dissertation, Online Databases, Reports, Back Holdings of Journals, Proceedings of Seminar and Conferences. The University library is also digitalized, having more than 10,000 e-Journals.

Bank - The Extension Counter of Bank of Maharashtra is located near the administrative building and provides financial services on the Campus.

Fabrication Laboratory - Fabrication Laboratory also known as FABLAB is a laboratory structured as an open environment for material-based learning and research, using a wide range of materials from foam and wood, metal and plastics to composites and smart materials. It is involved in experimentation with materials, prototyping and testing, exploration of innovative fabrication processes. The laboratory has a variety of equipments like - CNC Mill, l, PCB Prototyping System, Vinyl Cutter, 3D Printer etc.

Central Instrumentation Cell – The cell organises training programs, workshops and expert lectures with a view to foster repair and maintenance of scientific instruments and electronic hardware.

Post Office - There is a full-fledged Post Office on the campus, which provides both, traditional and modern mailing services.

Cafeteria – It is located amidst the Departments of Sociology, Chemistry, and Physics, and provides meals at reasonable prices.

Sports - The University Campus has basketball courts, volleyball courts, cricket and football grounds, a Gymnasium and a swimming pool. Facilities are also available for badminton, table tennis, kabaddi, wrestling etc. The Sports Complex has a large open ground for outdoor events.

Studies Centre - The Women Studies Centre is a disciplinary programme in the department of University Campus as well as in field area also. The Centre performs various activities like arts, communication, management and counselling for the upliftment of women’s status. It is stand alone centre collaborating with different faculties and colleges.

The University has made a noteworthy contribution in the field of environment protection and in maintenance of ecological balance.
