About Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth

The Marathwada Agricultural University, Parbhani was established in May, 1972 with seven faculties with a mandate of providing education, carrying need based research and dissemination of technologies to improve livelihood of farming community and to develop personality of students through sports and cultural activities. The jurisdiction of the University includes regions of Aurangabad, Beed, Hingoli, Jalna, Latur, Nanded, Osmanabad and Parbhani. The admission process for admission to all the courses conducted by MAU starts normally in the month of June every year. Application form should be submitted to Registrar, MAU, Parbhani in the prescribed blank Application form supplied by the Registrar.

Location  - The MAU region falls in Deccan Plateau Zone. It is basically an intense agrarian region with geographical area of 6.5 M ha occupying 21 per cent of total area of the State. The University HQ is located on Manmad-Nanded Railway track .It is around 200 km from Aurangabad city and well connected by Rail & Road. The nearest airport is Aurangabad.

Latitude : Between 17 DEG 35 min N & 20 deg 40 min N.
Longitude : Between 70 DEG 40 min E & 78 deg 15 min E.

Facilities

Library -  Marathwada Agricultural University is located at the centre of university campus Parbhani. The Library services are distributed in different sections of this library namely - Acquisition, Technical, Circulation and Maintenance of books, Periodical and Reference, CD-ROM Facility, Internet Access, Binding, Research Cubicals, 3 Reading Halls and Digital Library. The Library has a collection of 66746 Books, 25186 Back volume of Periodicals, 5690 Thesis/Dissertations, 6450 Annual Reports, 290 Current Journals. Jccc and openj-gate Online access of e-journals is also provided to Library members. Inflibnet and Delnet membership is available to access these networks. cera.jccc.in online journals access is provided  from ICAR to the Library users.

Central Computer Centre - The Central Computer Centre at MAU, Parbhani is being used for Teaching, data analysis, generating databases of useful information , staff trainings and some administrative work. The facilities at the Computer Centre were strengthened with establishment of ARIS Cell at the Centre. A OFC/UTP LAN connects almost all the Administrative and Academic Departments at MAU, Campus. Dial up Access Facility is available for connecting to Intranet from remote offices. Internet browsing facilities are provided at all of these places.

Sports & Co-Curricular Activities - Director Students Welfare looks after sports & other co-curricular activities of the students in the University. The units of NCC & NSS are functioning in various colleges under the University.Various Sports and cultural activities are conducted throughout the year to promote participation of students in sports and their personality development. The University also encourages students to participate in National & State level games, Sports & Cultural meets & Competitions.

Extension Education - The Directorate of Extension Education carries out the extension education activities through various schemes and centres viz. Training and Visit System, Extension Education Unit, Research Sub-Section Extension Wing, Agricultural Technology Information Centre, Regional Agricultural Extension Education Centres, Krishi Vigyan Kendras and Communication centre.

Schemes and Units of Extension Education:

  • Training & Visit System - The University is organizing Monthly District Workshops, Zonal Workshops, Pre-Seasonal Training programmes, Short-term trainings, State Level Trainings, etc. The linkage between the Research Scientists and Extension workers have been strengthened by regular participation of University Scientists in field visits, diagnostic team visits, farmers rallies, field days, exhibition, etc. organized by the T & V system. The feedback so received by the scientists from the extension workers are studied in details to solve the problem, to suit the local farming conditions and solutions given back for adoption purposes.
  • ATIC - Agricultural Technology Information Centre Based identifies various problems of the visiting farmers based on discussions with them and samples received at the ATIC and diagnostic field visits. Serious problems are communicated to the research scientists for further investigation. Internet and web page facilities are provided. Similarly, Telephone help line have been started from October 7, 2000 for easy access and communication. Farmers can get up-to-date information over telephone No. 02452-229000 about the availability of inputs, pest and diseases control, availability of literature etc. On every Friday, the Subject Matter Specialists attend the phone calls of the farmers from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. hrs. Like-wise the farmers can dial on 1551 (free of cost) and take benefit from the Kisan Call Centre (KCC) which is functioning smoothly at this Centre.
  • RAEEC - Regional Agricultural Extension Education Centers conduct Extension Education activities in remote areas to attract more farmers in adopting new farming technologies. These centres are undertaking the programmes with the help of Subject Matter Specialists of the nearby sister Research Stations/Colleges.
  • Communication Centre - The crop, season, situation, problem specific information is published for the benefit of the farmers. Publications like agricultural dairy, leaflets, Booklets, folders, Calendars, Newsletter, Sheti Bhati (Monthly Magazine) containing the recent technologies evolved by the University are prepared and distributed to the farmers, students and extension workers. The Directorate also undertakes issuing press notes, handouts, pamphlets, clarifications and arrange press conferences for the benefits of farming community.
  • Extension Education Unit - Demonstration plots of various crops/varieties developed by the University are taken-up in the selected farmers’ fields for verification of the impact of latest agricultural technologies in all the eight districts (Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded, Jalna, Aurangabad, Latur, Osmanabad and Bhir) during the ensuing kharif season. The required quantity of seed is being distributed free of cost by the University. The technical guidance to the farmers is given by the University Scientists by arranging periodical visits to these demonstration plots.
  • Extension Blocks - The University has its extension education blocks at College of Agriculture, Parbhani. The Extension Education activities such as organization of demonstrations, field visits, farmers rallies, frontline demonstration, exposure visits etc. are organized by these schemes for the benefit of farmers.
