About Jain Vishva Bharati Institute

Jain Vishva Bharati Institute (now University) was established in 1991 with inspiration from His Holiness Acharya Tulsi, a seer, saint and scholar. His Holiness was the ninth Acharya, the Supreme Head of the Jain Terapanth religious sect. He was the first Anushasta (Preceptor) of the Institute and Acharya Shri Mahaprajna his successor, is the present one. (The Anushasta is a statutory post of the Institute, empowered to discipline the Institute spiritually and morally.) The Jain Vishva Bharati Institute was accorded with the status of a "Deemed to be University" by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 3 of the U.G.C. Act of 1956, in 1991 on the recommendation of the Government of India. As per notification of University Grants Commission  No. F.6-1(II)/2006 (CPP-I) dated 13.09.2006, the name of the Jain Vishva Bharati Institute has been changed as Jain Vishva Bharati University. The campus of Jain Vishva Bharati, sponsoring body of JVBI, is spread over 1,00,600 sq. meters of area with trees on either side of the road and parks in the centre. The University places a great importance to character building. Meditation practices are mandatory. The education offered is holistic in purpose and aims at a holistic cum intellectual development of the individual.

Location  - The institute is located at Ladnun, a small town in Nagaur District of Rajasthan, It is 380 km. West of Delhi and 225 km. north west of Jaipur. Click here for Google Map Location

Transportation - It is well served by deluxe and express bus services from Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Udaipur, Ajmer, Ahemdabad, Delhi and other cities.

  • From Delhi-Sarai Rohilla there are trains up to Ratangarh Junction. From Ratangarh journey to Ladnun is of 2 hours by bus or local trains.

Facilities

Acharya Kalu Kanya Mahavidhyalaya - Inspired by Acharyashree Mahaprajna, Acharya Tulsi realized established Acharya Kalu Kanya Mahavidhyalaya in 1998 under the auspices of JVBI (Deemed University). This college (Mahavidhyalaya) was established in the name of Acharyashree Kalugani. Kalugani was the Eighth Acharya of Jain Terapanth Dharma Sangh who made untiring efforts for education and training of women for their upliftment. This college has been dedicated to his memory that upholds the feeling of self-dependence in the coming generation through high human values and education. The motto of this college is to not only impart higher education, but also to awaken the self-confidence inherent in students for a future independent life through binding a noble character. The Three year Bachelor Degree programme is specially developed to fulfil the needs and aspirations of the present generation.

Mahadevlal Saraogi Anekant Shodhpeeth - It is an integral part of Jain Vishva Bharati Institute. The idea of establishing this Shodhpeeth germinated on the occasion of the 83rd birth-day celebration of Gurudev Tulsi, the first Anushasta of the Jain Vishva Bharati Institute. It has been established to facilitate research work in all disciplines in oriental learning’s, particularly in Jainology. A dedicated team of researchers headed by Acharya Shri Mahapragyaji has produced the research work of high academic excellence. Other scholars also have been engaged for the same purpose through this centre.   

Research Programme - Jain Vishva Bharati Institute is primarily a research oriented center of higher education and lays greater emphasis on both empirical and desk based research and considers it a necessary pre-requisite for teaching. The research is focused on oriental learning particularly in Jainology and allied subjects under the guidance of Anushasta and learned scholars. The critical editions of all Jain Agams have been prepared and published in Hindi and some in English with critical notes by JVB, the parent body and the institute. Faculty members, Scholars, saints and nuns undertake the research activities. The main Subject of the research programme envisaged by this institute is to stimulate interest in and propagate the basic course of Jainology, i.e., non-absolutism, tolerance, fearlessness, non-violence and other sublime virtues to make a platform to produce an antidote to the present transitional period of human race. In order to achieve this goal, various interdisciplinary research work have been conducted and are being carrying on by the faculty members and the scholars from India and from abroad as well.   

Central Library - The University has over 66,000 books and more than 6000 rare manuscripts in its Central Library, known as ‘Vardhman Granthagar’. The University subscribes to a large number of Journals and Periodicals. The entire books and references database in the library has been computerized and the students can search using the OPAC facility. Xerox facility is also available in the library for the students.

Computer - The University has a State of Art Computer Laboratory. High-speed Internet facility is available through leaseline. Regular students and staff members of the University make best use of these facilities to update themselves with the latest developments in their respective fields. All the departments and study centres have been connected through LAN.

Hostel - Separate hostels for both boys and girls are available within the campus. Accommodation is made available to those coming from outside. Accommodation is, however, limited and is provided on a first-cum-first-served basis. Mess has also been provided in the respective hostels. Students, however, manage the mess themselves. Separate rules for both boys & girls have been framed. No hostel facility is given to part-time students, distance mode of any Course. Fee once deposited will not be refunded.

Medical Centre - The Medical Consultancy services (Ayurvedic and Allopathic) are available for all the students and other members of the University on free of cost.

Alumni Association - The University has an alumni association membership which is open to all the present students of JVBU as well as those who have passed out and are working on different positions in different organisations. The university organises alumni meet every year. This meet aims at assisting the present students, in their final placement, training (block placement), field visits and providing them guidance about corporate world.

Directorate of Extension - Extension activities of a University provide a link between the University and the community. The activities of directorate of extension division of the University are geared to promote of women education, open-learning system, non-formal education, NIOS consultancy & documentation. Various different techniques such as dialogues, folk media, recreational activities, interactive and participatory programmes, group working and group discussion are continuously used to create awareness among masses about their rights, access to information, exploitation, discrimination, employment opportunities.

Placement Cell - The University accords due importance to the placement of its students. The Placement Cell is working at the University to establish network with prospective employers to ensure that the student get placed in good companies, commensurating with a background and experience.

Coaching Schemes for SC/ST/OBC and Minorities - The main objectives of the scheme is to prepared SC/ST/OBC (Non-creamy layer) and minority communities candidates for appearing in NET or SLET so that sufficient number of candidates become available for selection as lecture in the University system.

Career Counselling Cell - Career and Counselling Cell support the students in the development of soft skills and communication ability to challenge the rigours of competitive tests and on-job-training in add-on or vocational courses. It promotes healthy intra and inter personal relations and inculcates social values, ability to think independently for carrying out social responsibilities.

Stipend & Scholarships - A limited number of merit cum need-based scholarships are available for deserving students. The students belong to SC/ST/OBC are provided scholarship from Social Welfare Department as per State Govt. norms.

Scholarships at the Under Graduate Level (B. A.)

(A) Need-based scholarship in BA Ist Year.
Scholarships are given to needy students who will be required to furnish the following details along with supporting documents on having secured admission to the desired course :
(i) Proof of Income of family
(ii) Minimum 45% marks in 10 + 2 final examination
The above scholarship is only for the first year. The number of scholarships are limited.

(B) Need-cum-merit-based scholarship in BA II & III Year.
Scholarships are renewable each year. The candidate’s performance is assessed every year and if she fulfils the following conditions, the scholarships will be continued.
(i) Secured a minimum of 60% marks in the previous year exams.
(ii) Proof of family income.
(iii) Good conduct certified by teachers concerned.
(iv) Has full attendance.

All these scholarships will contribute only towards the waiver of tuition fees and no cash rewards. The student will have to bear other expenses. A committee will decide students and the decision of the University will be final.

Scholarships at the Post Graduate Level

(a) For study of Post graduate courses (non-conventional subjects excluding SOL) stipends are offered to 5 students per year per course for Rs. 1000/- p.m. for 10 months.
(b) For study of M.Phil. Courses stipends are offered to 5 students on merit basis only to those students who have their masters degree either in Jainology and Comparative Religion and Philosophy or in Prakrit for Rs. 1500/- p.m. for 10 months.

The award of stipend will be made on the recommendations of HOD and approval of Vice- Chancellor.

Conditions :

Every student who gets the stipend should have:

(i) good conduct certified by HOD and concerned Administrative Officers including hostel
wardens.
(ii) have regular attendance, which means :
(a) A student must have minimum of 75% attendance every month.
(b) If a student is admitted up to the 15th of the month he/she will be entitled for the stipend for that month fulfilling the condition of a minimum of 75% attendance proportionately. But if he/she is admitted after the 15th, the stipend for that month will not be granted to him/her.

Insurance - The Students, Group Insurance facility is available in the University.

Bus Service - University have a bus facility for the students who come from adjoining areas of the Ladnun.

Language and Audio Visual Lab - To nurture the communication skills of students in English the University has state of art Language Lab. The methodology includes computer based training for developing english communication skills among students using unique and special Audio-visual, Multimedia, English Learning Software.

Meditation & Yoga - The present world which is full of anxieties and stress the need for emotional and mental well-being becomes rather important bearing. University has the Centre for Yoga and Meditation for development of balanced personality with necessary equipments.

Gymnasium - The University has its own Gymnasium with well equipped equipments and music system. This facility is made available for both boys and girls separately.

Restaurant - University offers an Air Conditioned Restaurant facility in its campus. Needless to say that it is the best restaurant available in Ladnun city with breakfast, lunch, dinner, fast food and traditional food facilities.

Guest House - University has its own Guest House with matchless lodging and boarding facility for University Guests.

Extra Curriculum Activities - The University believes in all-round development of students and encourage them to participate in sports and games and culture activities etc. The University also organises various community based programmes which provide opportunities to students to learn the techniques of leadership, quality, enrich their knowledge and soft skills.

Students Feedback & Exit meet - At the end of the every programme all the Departments organize an Exit Meet with the out-going students in July or August. The out-going students voice their assessment about the functioning of the department and suggest for necessary improvements on the basis of the experiences they had during the course/programme period. A feedback proforma is provided to each student to solicit their opinion in relation to the quality of teaching, teacher-taught relationships, guidance to students by the faculty, field work guidance, counselling, grievance redressal, student support system, infrastructure facilities etc.

Reservation of Seats - Reservation is as follows:

  1. Women 25%.
  2. SC 15%.
  3. ST/OBC 7.5%.
  4. Disabled Persons 03%.
  5. Kashmiri migrants one seat in each professional course.
  6. 5% seats to be earmarked for children of Indian workers in the Gulf and South East Asia out of the 15% supernumerary seats for admission to foreign students in universities deptts.

Achievements

Jain Vishva Bharati University has been accorded by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) B+ and has been Certified an ISO 9001:2000 certificate owing to its excellence in academics, research, extension infrastructure.
