About Malaviya National Institute of Technology - MNIT Jaipur

Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur is one of the twenty National Institutes of Technology established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. It was formerly known as 'Malaviya Regional Engineering College' and was established in 1963 as a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Rajasthan. The College was named Malaviya Regional Engineering College as a tribute to the vision and ideals of the renowned national leader and educationist, Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya. The College functioned from its temporary campus in Pilani until 1965 when it was shifted to its present campus in Jaipur. The founder Principal of this institution was Prof. V.G. Garde in whose dynamic supervision the College paved the way to be the foremost engineering institutes in the country. The Institute was assigned the status of National Institute of Technology and Deemed University on June 26, 2002. The Institute has now acquired the status of an autonomous Institute fully funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi. The Institute has been selected as a centre for the Technical Education Quality Improvement Program sponsored by the World Bank in collaboration with the Government of India. The semester scheme is followed for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The campus is spread over an area of over 312 acres. All the states and union territories of the country are represented in the undergraduate intake of the Institute(50% from rajasthan & the other 50% from all states & union territories of India). Courses specific to management, communication techniques and computer-aided design and programming have been introduced to keep pace with changing times. Curriculum workshops are being organized for upgrading UG and PG schemes. The Institute also offers P.G. specializations in Transportation Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Power Systems, Electronics and Communication Engineering, VSLI Design, Energy Engineering, Manufacturing Systems Engineering, Industrial Metallurgy, Structural Engineering, M.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, M. Planning (Urban Planning) and Master of Business Administration, Doctoral programs are also offered in all these areas including Humanities and Social Sciences.

Location - The Institute is located in Malaviya Nagar on Jawahar Lal Nehru Marg, Jaipur, in a campus amidst beautiful  surroundings with forest parks, public parks and hillocks. Transportation

  • By Train - Indian railways connect Jaipur to almost all major cities of the country. There are three stops close to MNIT: one on Durgapura, about 3 kms from MNIT, from where one can hire a taxi to reach MNIT, another at Ghandhi Nagar railway station, one km away from MNIT, one can hire a taxi or take bus no. 7 and 17 to reach MNIT. The main railway station is about 13 kms from MNIT, one can take a taxi or bus no 7 to reach MNIT.
  • By Air - MNIT is roughly five kilometres from Sanganer airport, from there one can either hire a taxi to reach MNIT or take bus no 13 to reach Tonk Phatak and then Bus no, 7 or 17 to reach MNIT.

Reaching the Campus

From National Highway 8 : It connects Jaipur to Delhi, Ajmer, Udaipur, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Mumbai one can reach to Sindhi Camp Bus stand. From Sindhi camp which is 10 kms away from MNIT campus one can take bus no. 7 and 17. One can also get prepaid taxi's too for the MNIT campus.

From National Highway 11
: It connects Agra-Jaipur-Bikaner one can reach to Sindhi Camp Bus stand. From Sindhi camp which is 10 kms away from MNIT campus one can take bus no. 7 and 17. One can also get prepaid taxi's too for the MNIT campus.

From National Highway 12 : It connects Jabalpur-Bhopal-Khilchipur-Aklera-Jhalawar-Kota-Bundi-Devli-Tonk-Jaipur. One can reach to Sindhi Camp Bus stand. From Sindhi camp which is 10 kms away from MNIT campus one can take bus no. 7 and 17. Prepaid taxis are also available from bus stand to the MNIT campus.

Facilities

Education System
- The academic performance of a student is graded on a 10 point scale, the letter grades awarded to a student in all the courses (except audit courses) are converted into a semester and cumulative performance index called the Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) respectively. A system of feedback by the students about the instructor and the course is also in practice.

Hostels - There are separate Hostels for boys and girls. There are 9 fully-furnished Hostels(having 3-seated, 2-seated and single seated rooms); 8 for boys and 1 for girls. Each room is furnished with cots, study tables and storage space. Basic amenities are provided and entertainment facilities in the form of Cable TV rooms and table-tennis are available in each Hostel. Each Hostel has incoming phone with indian Telephone Card facilities. Dining hall and common room of Hostel is fully air-cooled. The International Students Hostel for boys houses 12 double-seated suites. There is also a Married Students' Hostel for students pursuing the degrees of M.Tech. or Ph.D in the Institute and wishing to stay with their families. There is a Mess attached to each Hostel which is fully maintained by students through MNIT Mess Council and Mess Committees.

Central Computer Centre - The Centre is equipped with state of the art equipments. The facilities provided in the centre are organized in 3 Laboratories, Hardware & Software Central Pool and all the Laboratories are connected to the Internet.  The Institute is facilitated with a leased line providing 34 Mbps Internet bandwidth. The Institute Network now covers the entire academic area including hostels, sports office, dispensary, and guest houses. With additional 8 locations through ADSL connectivity and 300 points through CAT-5 and optical fibre backbone the Institute gives 24 x 7 internet connectivity to give access for browsing and e-mailing to everyone in the Institute.

Central Library - The Institute has a spacious and well equipped Library which is being run according to an open access system. It has rich collection of about 1,33,600 volumes of books, periodicals, reports and reference material. In addition to the books from main Library, some more books are issued to students from book bank also. Students belonging to weaker section (SC/ST)  are given some additional books from the Book Bank. There is a video viewing facility. Large number of books, periodicals, video cassettes and CD-ROMs are available. The CDNET facilities are to be developed very soon. Library has procured LIBSYS Software(Multi-user) and started the computerization of in house data. Wi-Fi. Campus
- The entire campus has been provided with state of the art network. It has been extended on optical fibre backbone to cover each and every corner of the Institute. The campus has also been made Wi-Fi.

Admission for International Students - The foreign nationals studying in any country including India and Indian students studying Abroad are eligible for admission to various Engineering programme at the University.

Concessions for SCs, STs, Handicapped Students

Admission Policy - According to the admission rules laid down by the Govt. of India, the following reservations are made for admission to undergraduate courses at the MNIT, Jaipur. The same applies for Post Graduate courses.

  • Scheduled Caste candidates 15%.
  • Scheduled Tribe candidates 7.5%.
  • Physically Handicapped Candidates 3 %.

Tuition Fee Waiver

  • Sponsored by Ministry of Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation, New Delhi Students belonging to SC/ST category are given 100% tuition fee waiver.
  • Library facilities - There is a separate Book Bank for SC/ST students. The number of books issued to each SC/ST student is 11 in comparison to 6 for General students.

Scholarships - Various state governments and Board for social Welfare Provide scholarships to SC/ST students. Rs. 2000/- PM Stipend + Tuition Fees + Exam Fees + Contingency Rs. 5000/- PA.

Entrepreneurship Development Cell - Entrepreneurship Development Cell has been sponsored by the National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science and Technology (DST) Govt. of India. The cell has been set-up to spread entrepreneurship, through education, research and training, thus accelerating economic growth, by increasing the supply of new entrepreneurs and strengthen performance of the existing ones.

Industry Institute Partnership Cell - The University has set-up a separate Industry Institute Partnership Cell under aegis of the AICTE for the purpose of providing technological know-how of rapidly changing work environment. It conducts interaction programs, continuing education programmes, seminars, symposiums, exhibitions and workshops. It also collaborates with other both national and international societies having similar objectives such as the Confederation of Indian Industry (C.I.I.) and The IndUS Entrepreneurs (TIE).

Training and Placement Cell - The Department of Training And Placement provides on the job practical training and placement services to the student of engineering and architecture. Practical training is arranged in private/public manufacturing industries, government engineering departments etc. The Training curriculum provides for 75 days of Practical Training in two spell of 30 and 45 days after IV and VI semester examination, respectively. In the academic year 2007-2008, 87 organizations visited/ conducted interviews for recruitment of final year student and selected 355 student out of total 371 eligible students. In addition to that 34 students of MTECH/MMS were also selected. Maximum, Minimum and Average Packages offered by companies were Rs. 10.3 Lacs P.A. (De Shaw), RS. 2.65 Lacs P.A. (Kirloskar Group) & Rs. 3.7 Lacs P.A. respectively.

Sports Facilities -  Indoor Sports facilities include aerobic, Badminton, table tennis, chess, yoga, meditation,  weight lifting, multi gym and sports rehabilitation centre. Outdoor facilities include football, cricket, kho- kho, kabaddi, tennis, volleyball, basketball, hockey and track and field (athletics). Every year students get selected in various games & sports teams to represent University of Rajasthan, Jaipur for participating in AIU tournaments of the country.

National Level Events - MNIT organises various national level Techno-Cultural Festivals.

These are:

  • Blitzschlag - The University organizes a National Level Techno-Cultural Fest called Blitzschlag. It is a 3 day event mostly held in January end.
  • MST - MST stands for MNIT Sports Tournament, held mostly in February end.
  • Neuron - It is a National Level Technical Festival organized by Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), generally during 3rd week of October.
  • Taal - It is the mega intra College cultural event organized by Music Society, MNIT Jaipur. TAAL is a popular 3-4 days event in which around 200 performers compete on the stage to judge their dancing and singing skills during February end and beginning of March.
  • Zodiac - It is an inter College dress designing competition held during April. It consists of Sirius, a duo event and Big Bang, the group event. Students present dresses designed by them.
  • Schrifftum - It is German word which means 'To Pen Down' as it is a Literary Society's annual event. There are a multitude of events which test a person's your analytical, verbal and oratory skills and win great prizes.
