Dnyaneshwar Vidyapeeth (DV) is a registered Society under the Registration of Societies Act, 1860 and a Public Trust registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1960. It was established in 1980 for imparting higher technical education to every desiring student who were unable to do so by normal process in a conventional engineering college. This approach makes it a novel, autonomous educational institution. Though named as Vidyapeeth, it is not a University under UGC Act and its courses are not recognized by any State or Central Government authority such as BTE, AICTE, and UGC etc. But it awards certificates to eligible students subject to the Vidyapeeth Regulations. The university has taken a conscious decision of not seeking any approval or accreditation from any government department or University so as to have sufficient autonomy to keep updating its syllabus and course structure, which are designed as per needs of the Industry. The Vidyapeeth has designed its courses to cover almost the same syllabus as that of the courses of any other contemporary institution.
Salient Features of Dnyaneshwar Vidyapeeth are:
All its courses are autonomous. The Vidyapeeth enrols the students as private candidates. It is responsible for the curriculum, the examinations and the results. The examinations of the Vidyapeeth are conducted by Central Examination Board (CEB), which tries to maintain an uniform and standard examination system. Examinations are conducted by the old traditional way, as well as by using suitably designed modern examination system. All aspects of the examinations, such as evaluation system, the nature of question papers, duration of examinations, syllabus, results, etc. are decided by the CEB. Enrolled students neither have to fill in examination forms for their regular examinations nor have to pay any additional fees. The examinations are held twice a year, semester-wise, generally in the month of May and December - termed as Summer and Winter examinations, respectively, in the schemes as may be decided by the CEB. The Vidyapeeth may, however, change the frequency and timings, if necessary. No information is sent to the students individually. Only enrolled students of Dnyaneshwar Vidyapeeth can appear for these exams.
Dnyaneshwar Vidyapeeth was founded by Late Dr. Manohar Apte who was Ex-Director of Technical Education, Maharashtra State. He was also an Educationist, Industrialist, Management Consultant and Author of several books. He firmly believed that education is a birthright of every individual. He was highly inspired by teachings of Marathi Saint Dnyaneshwar who wrote ‘Bhavarthadeepika’, later on known as Dnyaneshwari is written in Marathi giving the fundamentals of Geeta with easily understandable examples for common man. Durng the 1980’s engineering education was beyond reach of common man. There were no private engineering colleges in the State. In other parts of India students seeking admissions to these courses was far too large and there were only few colleges. Many bright students would not get admission to these colleges even though they had scored very good marks. Apte wanted to change this scenario and make the technical education affordable and yet have high standard of education. Technical education as it is received by the student has remained more theoretical in approach. Various Industries, Builders, Electrical Contractors were approached to provide work experience to the students for practical work. This was a unique and innovative experiment of offering work-experience and academic knowledge simultaneously to the students, to make them industry-effective, immediately on completion of the course.
Dnyaneshwar Vidyapeeth course is named as ‘Tech-Quic’ where Tech stands for Technology and Quic stands for Technology Qualification Upgradation for Industrial Community. This Diploma program is exclusively designed to strengthen the theoretical base of working professionals and prepare them for their career growth as well as for global challenges. Tech-Quic Programme provides opportunity working persons and other to study Engineering subjects at their own convenience and pace, at home. Though there are some limitations of pursuing the courses like it is not possible to register for post-graduation courses in any other Indian University based on Dnyaneshwar Vidyapeeth certificate. The certificate awarded may not be considered for employment or promotion in government jobs or even in some industry. However, with the certificate students can appear for AMIE examination and passing AMIE is equivalent to Engineering Graduation. At Post Graduate level some autonomous institutes conducting post-graduate management programs accept Dnyaneshwar Vidyapeeth students. Many students have appeared for GRE/TOEFL etc. and have secured admission in Universities in other countries that accept this score for admission process. Dnyaneshwar Vidyapeeth’s Transcript is also accepted in some foreign Universities. The industry in general, selects people on the basis of their performance rather than degree or any other certificate and as such many students have been well placed
