Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) is a State Government University established on 4th August, 1923. It is one of the oldest universities in Central India. Also known as Nagpur University it was bifurcated into Sagar, Jabalpur, Amravati, Dr. P.D.K. University and Akola. RTMNU’s jurisdiction extends to Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Bhandara, Wardha and Nagpur. The name of Nagpur University was changed to “Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University” vide Maharashtra Government Gazette part VIII on 4th May, 2005. The university derives its name from a social reformer Tukadoji Maharaj. It has three Constituent Colleges and has about 842 colleges affiliated with it. The Department and conducted college buildings are spread over in 11 campuses with an overall area of 318 acres.

Facilities at RTMNU
Hostels – Separate hostel facilities are available for boys and girls in the Institute premises. There is a Separate Hostel for international gents students while the lady International students are accommodated in the Girls Students of University Hostel.

Main Library - The University main Library is on North Amabazari Road, Nagpur-10 and there is a Campus Library at the New Campus on Amravati Road. In addition several University Departments, Laxminarayan Institute of Technology, Bar. S.K. Wankhede College of Education, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar College of Law have their own libraries. In the year 2000, the Library was renamed as Dr. V.B. alies Bhausaheb Kolte Library after the name of the former vice chancellor, Nagpur University, Nagpur. The library has a total of 3, 96,205 Books, 11,664 Theses, 14,313 Manuscripts, 35,719 Bound Volumes. It is subscribing to 290 Journals out of which 229 are Indian Journals and 61 are Foreign Journals. The library also has a collection of 193 Video Cassettes.
Books and other publications which are not available in the Library may be procured by the Librarian on loan from other libraries or Institutions for the benefit of the members of the library. The packing and postal charges for getting such publications on loan and return then to the respective libraries shall be borne by the member concerned. When the book is returned by post it shall be returned under registered cover at the risk of the borrower and he/she shall be responsible for any damage to the book cause during transit.The campus library is a branch of the University Library and is named - P.V. Narasimharao Granthalaya Bhavan or Narsimha Rao University Campus Library after former Prime Minister.
Fellowships and Scholarships – The University offers various fellowships and scholarships.

Bank – There is a branch of Bank of India in the campus.
Post Office – The University also has a campus post office.
IAS and other Competitive Examination Coaching Centre - The pre examination coaching centre of Nagpur University has been established to provide free coaching for the SC/ST, minority and OBC students. The centre runs under the aegis of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, New Delhi.

These hobby workshops are not part of general education or vocational training; these are solely extra-curricular one’s to be carried outside the college hours.
EOC – Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) is meant for SC, ST, OBC and Minorities. The cell is involved in various activities to ensure equity and equal opportunity to them. It runs specific scheme of coaching, in order to enhance their employability.
Earn and Learn Scheme – Through this scheme financial aid and other facilities are provided to students who do not receive any financial aid from the government or other organizations. Selected students have to work for three hours besides their regular Studies. This scheme is for poor students of conducted colleges and P.G. department of the University only.
Lecture Series - Every year different lecture series are organized for Teachers and Students on different subject’s .These Lectures are also beneficial to students. Experts in different fields of academics & social work is called from different places to deliver lecture on various topics are invited. There lectures add to the knowledge of the students.
University Employment, Self Employment, Information and Guidance Centre - It is a joint office of the state government and university. Such offices are located at Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur, Aurangabad, Amravati and Nagpur. Unemployed graduate, Post graduates and Professional courses degree and diploma holders can register in this office along with their academic details. This centre helps in getting jobs in Govt. or Private Sector as per seniority. This also gives training, guidance or self employment guidance for entrepreneurship. Unemployed youths are informed through books or news papers about competitive exams & general knowledge. All guidance, assistance and facilities are provided by this centre free of cost. There is a 3% reservation for physically handicap youth in the job and special guidance is given to such youth.
Technology Park – The Technology Park (TP) strives to bring the academicians, researchers and industrialists on a common platform for mutual benefits and for benefit of the society at large. The aim of the TP is to create an atmosphere for innovation and entrepreneurship and provide facilities for the development of new technologies and their rapid transfer to the end user.
Health Centre - The University Health Centre is situated at D. Laxminarynarayan campus, Amravati Road, Nagpur. It has one medical officer, one pharmacist, one clerk and other paramedical staff. Free medical treatment along with free medicines is also provided to the students.
Cultural Activities – The University organises annual inter-university cultural competitions in 24 different activities in music, theatre, literary events, dance and fine arts. It also organises State Inter University Youth festival (Indradhanushya) in the first week of November and West Zone Inter University Youth festival in December and National Youth festival in January or February.
NSS – NSS raises social awareness amongst the college students and develops their personality through its various activities. Regular NSS activities in a year involve 120 hours for social work. Students have to work in adopted village, slums for implementation of programs like immunization, AIDS, blood donation, tree plantation, village cleanliness, environment, national integration week, etc
NCC - NCC is a tri-services organization comprising Army, Navy and Air Force, engaged in grooming the college youth. NCC Students are deployed for general elections, disaster relief, adult literacy, traffic control, village adoption, child welfare, ant dowry, blood & eye donation and tree plantation programs.
Career and Counselling Cell – It organises training programmes for the students to face interviews, avail job opportunities in various fields. It provides soft skill development, on the job training, organises training programmes and guidance regarding professional trends, events, job profiles, leadership roles, entrepreneurship, market needs and risks. The cell also provides guidance for self employment through Seminars and workshops.
