North Maharashtra University (NMU), Jalgaon is a State Government University established on 15th August, 1990 under the Maharashtra Universities Act, XXIX of 1989. It started its academic and administrative functioning from the academic year 1991-92. NMU, Jalgaon is recognized under section 2 (f) in 1991 and 12 (B) in 1994 under the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956. The jurisdiction of the University is extended over three districts i.e. Jalgaon, Dhule and Nandurbar, a pre-dominantly tribal and rural area of Khandesh region. NMU has about 220 affiliated colleges and 4 University recognized Research Institutes/Centres under its jurisdiction. Out of these, 1 college is recognized as College of Excellence, 5 colleges have been identified as College with Potential for Excellence and 1 college has been granted autonomous status by the UGC, New Delhi Board and Government of Maharashtra. The University has implemented Cumulative Grade Point Average System from the academic year 2009-10 and Choice Based Credit System from the academic year 2014-15 to all the P.G. courses on the campus. The University was awarded with Four Star grade in the year 2001, B grade with 2.88 CGPA in the year 2009 and A Grade with 3.11 CGPA in 3rd Cycle re-accreditation in year 2015 by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore. Its campus has been beautified with a massive plantation drive of more than 2 lakh trees which earned it the recognition of ‘Vanshree Award – 2000’ by Government of Maharashtra and ‘Indira Priyadarshini Vrikshmitra Award-2002’ by Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India, New Delhi.
Location of NMU
The main campus of the University is located about 8 km away from Jalgaon and 1.5 km away from the Asia Highway No. 46 and is spread over an area of 660 acres on a hilly terrain (above mean sea level 810 ft.)
Reaching NMU
North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon is situated 10 Kms away from Jalgaon City. Georgraphically, Jalgaon district is situated at the North side of Maharashtra State.
i) By Rail - The railway station in Jalgaon is well connected to major cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bhopal, Ahmedabad and Surat. Bhusawal is the nearest junction to Jalgaon at a distance of 26 Kms. Almost every train running from Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bhopal, Ahmedabad and Surat halts at Bhusawal.
ii) By Road - Jalgoan city is well connected to neighbouring cities of Maharashtra by the National Highway Number 6 (NH-6) and Jalgaon-Aurangabad highway. Buses to the town of Jalgaon are frequently available, and many buses ply from the nearby destinations of Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and Nasik.
iii) By Air - The nearest airport is Aurangabad at a distance of approx 158 kms. from Jalgaon, which is well connected to Mumbai and Pune.

Facilities at NUM
Hostels – The University provides separate hostel facilities for girls and boys. There are 3 Boys’ Hostels and 5 girls’ hostels. All rooms in hostel are well ventilated, aerated and furnished with study tables, chairs, fans, fluorescent lights. Each hostel has independent mess.
Satellite Centres – NUM has three satellite campuses.
These are:
i) Eklavya Training Centre, Nandurbar - It has been established to look after the needs of tribal and rural students particularly in Nandurbar district. The Centre conducts Chanakya Competitive Examination Coaching Scheme on regular basis at 20 affiliated colleges. The coaching provides various skills like - confidence building, time management, general knowledge/awareness etc.
ii) Pratap P.G. Research Centre of Philosophy, Amalner - The Department of Philosophy runs M.A. (Post Graduation) Course. Students with M.A. Philosophy can enrol for Doctoral Research at the Centre. Prof. Archana P. Degaonkar is heading the Department of Philosophy. The institute has published a number of books on Indian Philosophy and Comparative studies in East-West Philosophy. The Scholars and fellows associated with this institution during this long period were originators of practically all philosophical movements in contemporary Indian thought; amongst them are Prof. G.R. Malkani, Prof. Rasbiharidas, Prof. K. C. Bhattacharaya.
iii) Mahatma Gandhi Philosophy Centre, Dhule - The centre compromises of two buildings namely ‘Kasrturba Abhyas Kutir’ and ‘Mahadeo bhai Desai’ respectively. The Kendra conducts diverse academic activities through Gandhi Vichar Pariksha, Gandhi Vishar Shibirs, Gandhi Vichar Sabha, and Poster Exhibitions for spreading philosophy and thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi. In addition to these, the Kendra also supports students aspiring for career in Civil Services by providing guidance and library facilities. It also conducts seminars, workshops on soft skill development in association with various NGO’s. Around 120 trees have been planted in the premises of the centre. There are 4031 books in the library for reference purpose to the students
Community College - The Community College is established at Eklavya Training - Centre Nandurbar. It is a non-profit making, non-commercial and community based Project. It focuses on 12th passed students, school dropouts, rural youth, rural women, existing workforce that wants to update its skills and all who want skill based and need based education at an affordable price. There is no age limit for admission into a Community College.
Bio-Diversity Park - University campus is surrounded by lush green environment with diverse flora and fauna. The Government of Maharashtra with Social Forestry Department, the local industries, Rural Development and Water Conservation Department, Planning Department and North Maharashtra University Jalgaon has announced setting up of a “Bio-Diversity Park” on 100 ha. of land belonging to North Maharashtra University. The objectives are promoting conservation of regional bio-diversity, provide research facilities in biodiversity and spread awareness among the populace regarding importance of biodiversity for mankind.

Financial Assistance Schemes – The University offers various financial incentives to the students.

Foreign Collaborations – The University has collaborated Cayuga Community College (CCC), Auburn, New York to offer Joint Bachelor Degree Program (Microbiology, Computer Science, Chemistry and Business Administration). The course is meant for providing global exposure to the students of the rural and tribal dominated area.
Requirements:
Model 1 - The students passing 12th STD from Maharashtra State Board of Higher Secondary Education or Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) or Indian School Certificate Examination with 70% marks or equivalent grade shall be eligible for admission to CCC under this programme.
Model 2 - The students from NMU after completion of first year at NMU, should have completed 44/45 (with mathematics) plus 2 audit credits and should have a SGPA of 7 and above corresponding to 60% and above marks cumulatively, to be eligible to get admission in the second year at CCC to earn an Associate degree.
BACECC - Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Competitive Examination Coaching Centre (BACECC) provides free coaching and academic facilities to the SC/ST/OBC/VJ-NT/Minorities students of Khandesh Region (Maharashtra) for the preparation of administrative career by appearing for the civil services Examination and Banking/LIC/RRB/SSC Examinations as well.
Adult and Continuing Education and Extension Services – It organizes and coordinates the programs regarding adult education, continuing education and extension activities of the university.

Health Centre - It is located in a separate building having a carpet area of 5600 sq. ft with a beautiful garden surrounding it. It offers modern and sophisticated facilities for the health care of the students, employees and their families at a minimal cost. It also provides medical assistance to various N.S.S. camps and during various sports activities.
SC-ST Cell – The cell implements, monitors and evaluates the reservation policy for SC/ST, VJ/NT/OBC/SBC category candidates, in the Universities and Colleges. It also plans measures for ensuring effective implementation of the policy and programmes of the State Government and the UGC.
Student Facilitation Centre – The centre provided information related to examination schedule, examination time table, probable dates of results, syllabus, procedure for obtaining various certificates from University, etc.
Khandesh Archives and Museum Centre – It facilitate conservation as well as research of rich historicity of Khandesh regions that has been preserved throughout the ages in the form of historical artefacts and to acquaint the students of future generations with the fast vanishing tribal cultures and traditions of this region. It is established in the Central Library building of the University. It has a collection of ivory objects, utensils of daily usage, royal attire, wooden carved objects, coins, numismatics, decorative and vanity items, play and fun objects, items made of China clay and glass, stone sculptures of Lord Rama and Sita etc.
