Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded came into existence after the bifurcation of the then ‘Marathwada University, Aurangabad, on 17th September, 1994. University, right from its inception chartered new paths of progress. In its initial phase of development main focus was on making the infrastructure, equipments, and teachers available to run the un-conventional courses offered in the university. University always kept on progressing academically keeping its eye on the three main dimensions viz. Teaching, Research & Extension. In its short span of 14 years academic progress at these three fronts is glaring.
University Campus spans over an area of 525 acres with an administrative building & 7 school buildings. Sub-campus is sited at Latur. University at present has 11 schools, a sub-campus with more than 325 colleges affiliated to it. It offers 26 PG courses, 6 M.Phil. courses along with 52 Ph.D. programmes. In all 108 programmes are offered in affiliated colleges and university schools. Research in the University is noteworthy as more than 75% of the teaching faculty is actively engaged in research & generated funds of more than Rs.4 Crores through 41 research projects, more than 450 research papers are published at national & international level. University has 8 more than 70 teaching staff and 300 administrative staff to manage the academic and administrative work of the university.
As the University is the top most body initiating Higher Education, Research and Affiliation, it has initiated all the necessary steps required for raising the standards of teaching and research on the campus. As the university caters to semi urban and rural population, it has taken care of regional aspirations and needs while developing academically. Accordingly campus teaching facilities have been modulated to follow the school system rather than departmental system with more than one course being offered in each school. In tune with the concepts and suggestions of the UGC, and NAAC, technological advancements and societal needs and to make the teaching effective and meaningful, university has adopted credit-grade based performance and assessment (CGPA) system on the campus successfully from 2006. National Knowledge Commission has also strongly recommended credit system very strongly. The credit based system has initiated and promoted interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary studies, while retaining the flavour for core courses.
Teaching at the Campus follows a School system with interdisciplinary character. Each School offers interlinked courses under one roof with expert faculty. School system also imparts flexibility in planning and operation of the curricula. The university school system is based on the aspects of research, consultancy and extension services. At present schools have excellent instrumentation facilities and required expertise in its faculty. The campus schools also have externally funded research projects. The Schools also offer consultancy services. At present active consultancy activity is going on in the fields of Earth, Environmental, Chemical and Social Science
Schools of Study
Location and Transportation - Nanded is holy city situated on the banks of Godavari River in southeastern part of Maharashtra state. Nanded is directly approachable by road and train from Aurangabad (270 km) and Hyderabad (270 km), Nagpur (350 km), Mumbai (600 km) and Delhi (1700 km). Weekly three flights run between Mumbai and Nanded.
Facilities
International Student Centre - It is a central facility for international student community who are interested in the academic programs and as visiting scientists of our university. Excellent facilities, infrastructure and well-equipped laboratories and its international publications of high repute evidence the university’s scientific temperament.
Career Oriented Courses - University is offering various career oriented courses to be conducted in campus schools of this university. The main objective of starting various certificate, Diploma and Advance Diploma courses is to enhance the employability of the existing courses along with imparting skills required for jobs. Some of these include Diploma Course in French/German/Spanish/ Russian/Chinese, Advance Diploma Course in French/German/Spanish/ Russian/Chinese
Library - Library of Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University is the Nucleus of the Teaching-learning program. Though the collection is not larger by number, it is rich in quality. Shortly it will cross the number of 50,000. The basic functioning of any document is its use and hence a user occupies important place in functioning of the library.
Sports - Initially the university had jurisdiction covers 4 districts in Marathwada region. Physical Education made its appearance on the horizon of young universities in 1997 with the promulgation of Vice-Chancellor ordinance making Physical Education compulsory for all the students at under graduate and graduate level. This gave a forceful boost to the growth and development of Physical Education in this region. Introduction of Physical Education in the university curriculum made possible the inclusion of some popular games such as Cricket, Tennis, Football and Basketball as events in the Inter Collegiate Tournaments. Facilities include Recreational facilities Indoor and Outdoor games
Laboratory - All the science laboratories are well equipped with sophisticated instruments. The university has a central UGC computer centre for all. As well as another additional computer centre for schools in faculty of science. UGC-ERNET facility is available.
Hostel Accommodation - Separate hostel facilities for girls and boys are available at the university campus. The admission to the hostel is strictly given on the merit basis to P.G. students of all campus schools. The quota for each school shall be decided on demand and supply basis. The hostel mess is on co-operative basis and shall be compulsory for each student-hostelite. In case of cancellation of hostel admission, 10% deduction shall be made and the balance amount will be refunded provided that the admission is cancelled before 31st August of the year.
Competitive Examinations Guidance Centre - In order to develop the competitive ability of the students, the university is planning to start a competitive examination centre. This centre will provide guidance regarding the various competitive examinations conducted by UPSC, MPSC, other commissions, Banking and Insurance etc. for the benefits of our students. This will be facilitate to explore the potential of the students and strengthen their competitive ability.
Rules Of Reservations - Reservation of seats for backward class students will be limited to 50% of the intake capacity as per the Government rules. 30% seats will be reserved for women from the open and reserved category seats, put together and distributed proportionately.
Scholarships - Some of these are 1. GOI Regular Scholarship Scheme, 2. GOI Freeship Scholarship Scheme, 3. Handicapped Scholarship Scheme, 4. GOI Adivasi Scholarship regular/freeship Scholarship Scheme, 5. Vocational Studies Stipend Scheme
Women’s Grievance Cell - The cell is basically meant for dealing with the problems of women on campus relating to sexual harassment and violence at the workplace.
Achievements
NAAC/IQAC - University is now Re-accredited with 'B' grade with 2.11 points on 4 point grade scale.
