Indian Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR) University, Jaipur is a Unique Institute as it offers unique courses of education in health management. It is a premier organization that pioneered establishing Health Management as a new discipline by integrating concepts of Public Health and Management. IIHMR is the first of its kind in India, with attention solely focused on health systems management. The Indian Institute of Health Management Research, Jaipur was originally registered as the Society for Indian Institute of Health Management Research, Jaipur under the Rajasthan Societies Registration Act in 1984. Its name was changed to Indian Institute of Health Management Research, Jaipur in 1993. It became university in 2014. Late Shri. M.L. Mehta, the Trustee Secretary of IIHMR Society was the Founding Chairman of IIHMR University. The IIHMR University is also a specialized Research University involved in management research, postgraduate education and training exclusively in the health sector. The University aims to generate new knowledge and technologies to provide evidence and inputs for developing effective policies and health interventions and strategies. It is recognized by Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Finance and Government of India as a Research Institution. It is accredited to International Hospital Federation and Association of University Programmes in Health Administration. Its jurisdiction extends to the whole of the State of Rajasthan. It is spread over an area of 14.37 acres of land and includes various infrastructural facilities like - auditorium, training centre, computer laboratories, seminar hall, staff's quarters, wi-fi campus, language laboratory, lift and ramps of physically challenged students and staff, sewage treatment plant for recycling water, rain water and rooftop water harvesting systems amongst others.

Facilities at IIHMR, Jaipur

Hostels – The University has separate hostel facilities for boys and girls. There is 1 Boys' Hostel and 2 Girls Hostels.

Library – The University Library is named Dr. D.A. Henderson Library and Documentation Centre. It has a collection of about 18,979 titles, 20,484 volumes, 49 encyclopaedias, 857 CD-ROMs and Databases from India and abroad like Health Plan, Popline and e-TALC and 10 PCs. The library receives over 130 periodicals of professional and research nature in addition to a few periodicals of general interest as well as 150 Newsletters published around the globe. Apart from these it has reference books, reports, theses, yearbooks, back volumes, manuals and case studies. Library has DELNET membership, which provides facility of connecting the University library with various libraries in the Network and with all the management institutes. It also has reading room.

I.T. Centre – Information Technology centre provides more than 500 nodes which connect every corner of the University high end servers, laptops and Desktops, Laser printers, Online UPS, LCD projectors and video- conferencing equipment. The University network is linked to the Internet via a dedicated leased line enabling round-the-clock fast Internet connectivity. Wi-Fi facility is provided to the students' and faculty as well.

Sports – The University has common room for boys and girls with indoor games facilities like carrom, table tennis and chess. It also has a gymnasium and a swimming pool. Outdoor sports facilities include badminton court, basketball court, cricket and football ground, lawn tennis court and volley ball court.

Medical Insurance - The students of the institute are covered under the ‘Mediclaim Policy’ as per the University norms.

Summer Training - Summer training is an integral part of the program. The students get training for 2 months (8 weeks) in various organizations in the country or abroad for practical exposure and hands-on training.

Internship - All students are required to undergo a 3 months (12 weeks) duration internship after completion of the last term examination in the second year. The objective of the internship is to get a first hand probationary exposure of the work culture of the organization and to learn and attain clear understanding of the assigned tasks and official procedures of the organization. During the internship the student prepares a report showing details of the organization and any specific work/project she/he has undertaken based on the requirement/suggestion of the organization. The student is then required to make a presentation of the internship. The student would have to submit the internship report to the Academic Office after approval of the mentor/guide. He/she would submit a soft copy of the report to the library. Academic Office facilitates the process of internship. After completion of internship the student is expected to submit an internship completion certificate from the organization where the internship was done

Placement Cell – The placement cell facilitates and coordinates placement process. The placement cell conducts various activities in the campus. The cell facilitates development and printing of placement brochure. It identifies organizations and develops lists of organizations and contact persons. It also coordinates with employers in conducting placement talks and interviews.

Internet facilities – It is available through ID and password round the clock through wi-fi facility in the campus.

Dining Area - The institute has a designated dining Area at the MDP centre for the training participants where all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are exclusively served.

Guest House - The institute has its own fully furnished air-conditioned guest house located in the institute campus. The participants are provided rooms on twin-sharing basis equipped with satellite TV, tea/coffee kits and other amenities.

Training Halls - The institute has training halls venue equipped with all the modern training facilities like LCD, OHP, white board, chalk board, flip charts, and air-conditioning.

Collaborations

• IIHMR is working as a WHO Collaborating Centre for District Health Systems and designated as an Institute of Excellence by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The Institute operates as a resource centre; organizes intra - and inter-country training programs; and collaborates with WHO in monitoring and evaluation and provides expertise in health system management and research.
• The Institute undertakes training, research and consultancy in health management in close collaboration with international organizations such as UNFPA, UNICEF, WHO, World Bank, ODA,
• It has International Linkages collaborated with University of North Carolina, USA to offer masters programme to candidates from South-Asia.
• South-East Asia Public Health Education Institution Network (SEAPHEIN) has been created by the WHO South-East Asia Regional Office to promote collaboration and sharing of information and knowledge among the member countries in the Region in pursuit of strengthening public health education and training. IIHMR is the founding and an active partner of the network and has signed agreements for collaboration with various institutions in SEAR countries to promote capacity building in public health, management and joint collaborative research.

Achievements

• IIHMR, Jaipur was the first to introduce a postgraduate program in hospital and health management in India. The course was started in the year 1996.
• IIHMR has introduced Masters in Public Health (MPH) in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA, a first of its kind program in India. The course is conducted jointly and the degree will be awarded by the Johns Hopkins University, USA.
