A teacher is someone who is able to teach. In true sense, the teacher is considered as the builder of a nation. One can say he is the saviour of the society as he plays a vital role in the building of a worthy human being out of an infant. A worthy human being is to the society what a healthy cell is to the human body. If one cell of the human body starts malfunction it can destroy the full human body, same is the case with an unworthy human. This worthiness to a newborn child is provided by a good teacher or Guru as was known in earlier civilization.

The teacher is not only responsible for imparting academic knowledge to a student but also to inculcate in her the principle and virtues of a good human being. There was a time when this profession was held in high esteem. Guru / Teacher was given preference to the God itself as it was thought that the Guru is one who shows us the way to God and this is not less a truth. He is the one who makes or mars a good human being out of a raw human being by giving right kind of knowledge.

Although for some time this profession lost its importance for one reason or the other but ones again in this competitive world teaching profession has regained its past glory. Masses, in general, have got awareness of the fact that a good teacher is the only one who can make their young ones true and competitive human being with his own experience, expertise and knowledge. Therefore it is very important to have professionally qualified teachers to ensure the right development of students who can impart training to the younger generation according to their needs and aspiration in the near future.

For nurturing this younger generation and training those according to their age and aspiration good teachers themselves require a different type of knowledge that can be acquired by doing various courses available for the upcoming teachers.

With the increase in the human activities in all area of the human domain the requirement of well informed human recourses is increasing every day thereby the need of those who can produce them i.e. the teachers. With the increase in the number of schools, the demand of teachers is also increasing my fold with every passing session.

So there is no dearth of scope for the people in this noble profession of nation-building along with their own career prospects. However, teaching when compared to other professions is less lucrative but it is the mental satisfaction attached to the profession that draws the attention of individuals. To join this noble brigade they have to undergo one or more of the following courses according to their liking.

 

Classification of Teachers
Since the requirements of small kids, the primary students and secondary students are different from each other, thus primary teachers and secondary teachers are required to take up different teacher's training courses. Therefore there are different teacher's training courses like-

  1. Nursery Teachers Training (NTT) (Teachers for children up to the age of 4 years.)
  2. Elementary Teachers Training (ETT) (Teachers for children between the age group of 4 to 14 years.)
  3. Primary teachers training (PTT) (Teachers for children up to 5th class.)
  4. Junior Basic Training (JBT)
  5. Diploma in Education (D.Ed.)
  6. Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.) and several other teachers' training courses.

 

How to become a Teacher?

To become a teacher the candidates have to undergo one of the following given course according to his/her own interest and calibre.

Elementary Teachers Training (ETT)

Educational Qualification
To be eligible to join ETT course one should be 10+2 Class with at least 60% marks for getting admission to some institutions.

Step 1
Interested candidate has to appear in an entrance test conducted by the various state and Independent educational bodies to admit candidates in various teaching institutions attached with it according to the rank of the candidate in the entrance exam. These exams are generally held in the month of May-June and consist of Objective type questions on the subject of English, General Knowledge, Aptitude, Basic Arithmetic Teaching Potential and one local language in some states. The results of these exams are generally out by June/July.

Step 2
After completing this two years course in which one has to go through all the major aspects of the field of study. Apart from the theory part, teachers also go through practical training courses. One can opt. for some job is private or state-run school as ETT teacher.

Fees and Other Expenditures: Although varying from college to college, the total course fee for an ETT course ranges from anywhere from between 10 thousands at a government college to around Rs 25 thousand and even higher in private institutes.

 

Junior Basic Training (JBT)
The junior basic training Institutes (JBT) have come up in India mainly to train the teachers who are actively engaged in imparting education to the tender aged children.

 

Teacher Eligibility

Educational Qualification
To be eligible to join JBT course one should be 10+2 Class with at least 50% marks or Graduation with at least 45% marks for getting admission to some institutions.

Step 1
Interested candidate has to appear in an entrance test conducted by the various state and Independent educational bodies to admit candidates in various teaching institutions attached with it according to the rank of the candidate in the entrance exam.

These exams are generally held in the month of May-June and consist of Objective type questions on the subject of English, General Knowledge, Aptitude, Basic Arithmetic Teaching Potential and one local language in some states.

The results of these exams are generally out by June/July.

Step 2
After completing this two years course in which one has to go through all the major aspects of the field of study. Apart from the theory part, teachers also go through practical training courses .one can opt. for some job is private or state-run school as JBT teacher.

Fees and Other Expenditures: Although varying from college to college, the total course fee for a JBT course ranges from anywhere from between 5 thousands at a government college to around Rs 15 thousand and even higher in private institutes.

 

Nursery Teacher’s Training (NTT)
NTT course trains the prospective teachers to handle the students of pre-primary schools.

Educational Qualification
To be eligible for joining NTT course one should be 10+2 Class pass with at least 50% marks to get admission in some of the good institution providing this course.

Step 1
Interested candidate has to appear in an entrance test conducted by the various state and Independent educational bodies to admit candidates in various teaching institutions attached with it according to the rank of the candidate in the entrance exam.

These exams are generally held in the month of May-June and consist of objective type questions on the subject of English, General Knowledge, Aptitude, Basic Arithmetic Teaching Potential and one local language in some states.

The results of these exams are generally out by June/July.

Step 2
After completing this two years course in which one has to go through all the major aspects of the field of study. Apart from the theory part, teachers also go through practical training courses and taught how to understand the psychology of the kids who are too small to explain their thoughts properly to the teacher. One can opt. for some job is private or state-run school as a Nursery teacher.

Fees and Other Expenditures: Although varying from college to college, the total course fee for degree ranges from anywhere near 20-25 thousand.

 

Bachelor of Education of (B.Ed.)
If one really has the passion for teaching and wants to seriously make teaching as his profession then B. Ed degree is must for him. This is the first step towards the glorious and highly respected career.

Educational Qualification
To be eligible for joining B.Ed. course one should be a graduate in any of the stream or equivalent from recognised board/university with at least 50% marks to get admission in some of the good institution providing this course.

Step 1
Interested candidate has to appear in an entrance test conducted by the various state and Independent educational bodies and universities to admit candidates in various teaching institutions attached with it according to the rank of the candidate in the entrance exam.

These exams are generally held in the month of June/July and consist of Objective type questions on the subject of English, General Knowledge, Aptitude, Basic Arithmetic Teaching Potential and one local language in some states.

The results of these exams are generally out by July/Aug.

Step 2
After completing this one year course in which one has to go through all the major aspects of the field of study. Apart from the theory part, teachers also go through practical training courses.

Fees and Other Expenditures: Although varying from college to college, the total course fee for degree ranges from anywhere near 10 thousand in govt colleges to 30-35 thousand in private colleges.

Teacher Salary

Teachers’ pay varies according to the course they have done and the school they are working in. In the government sector, they can aspect an average pay of Rs.40,000 to start with whereas in Private school they can get a starting pay of Rs.25,000. But with experience and expertise, they can have good increments in no time which is not the case in the government sector.
