About Chaudhary Devi Lal University
Chaudhary Devi Lal University, named after Jan Nayak (late) Chaudhary Devi Lal, the former Deputy Prime Minister of India, who belonged to this region of Haryana state. The University was established by the Government of Haryana by an Act of Legislature in the year 2003 (Act No.9/2003) and was inaugurated on April 5, 2003. The University has great potential for developing into a Centre of Academic Excellence to cater the students belonging to Haryana and other states of the country. From 2006-2007, the University is offering job-oriented professional courses, like one year PG Diploma in: Clinical Microbiology & Pathology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiology & X-Ray Therapy, Food Processing & Preservation, DNA Finger Printing and Forensic Science, Environmental Education & Awareness, Internet & Mobile Technology, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO)
In addition, the University has started M.Phil Programmes in Management, Education, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Commerce, Economics, English, Journalism & Mass Communication, Lib. & Information Science as well as other Programmes like LL. B. Five Year Integrated, Five Year Integrated MBA. The University offers the following courses through Distance Education: MBA (General), MBA (E-Commerce), MBA (Hospital Administration), MCA, MHRM, MIB, M. Com. PG Diploma in:Investment Banking, Master of Insurance Business, Master of Bank Management, M.A. in: Education, Social Work, Journalism & Mass Communication , PG Diploma in: Computer Applications, Business Administration, Rural Development, Information Systems, Bachelor of Library and Information Science, Diploma in Art and Crafts and Diploma in Fashion Designing. The University is also planning to make collaboration with foreign Universities in order to exchange knowledge, expertise and other pedagogic practices, which are essential for the qualitative development of the University.
Location and Transportation - The University, located at Sirsa at a distance of 256 kms from Delhi and 285 from Chandigarh, has a sprawling campus of 348 acres on the Barnala Road. The National Highway No. 10 and the Delhi-Rewari-Bathinda Railway Line pass through Sirsa. The squadron head quarter of Indian Air Force with an airport is also in the vicinity of Sirsa city. Though Sirsa is situated in Haryana, it adjoins both Punjab and Rajasthan.

UCDL - To cater to the needs of those students who could not afford regular admission and for the benefits of students of far-flung and unreachable areas in the session 2006-07, the University established the University Centre for Distance Learning which offers various job-oriented courses through Distance Education Mode. The University Centre for Distance Learning has planned to meet the challenges of the times and growing requirements of the people of the area. The Centre offers several courses through distance mode such as BCA, BA Mass Communication, MBA, MCA, M.A. (Mass Communication), M.A. (English), M.A. (Education), M.Sc. (Computer Science), M.Phil. (Commerce, Computer Science, Education, Management, Economics and English), Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Application (PGDCA), Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM), Diploma in Computer Science & Technology (DCST) and Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication (PGDMC). The Distance Education Council has approved all the courses run by University Centre for Distance Learning through Distance Education Mode. To help the students and for seeking day to day information of the University Centre for Distance Learning, University website is updated regularly. The information relating to the Handbook of Information, Personal Contact Programmes, Date-Sheet and other related information for the students of Distance Education mode are available on the University Website in English and Hindi. The services of the upcoming Community Radio Station of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication shall also be utilised for the UCDL students residing in and around Sirsa.
Welfare Schemes For SC/BC Students - The University ensures proper implementation of various schemes of the UGC/Government of India/ State Government concerning admissions, scholarships etc. for the welfare of the students of reserved categories. The guidelines as revised from time to time by the Central and State Governments are displayed on the Notice Boards, prominent places and in the University Prospectus for the benefit of these students belonging to SC/BC community. The guidelines are strictly adhered to. Apart from these scholarships, the State Merit Scholarship scheme has also been introduced during the year 2007-08 and the students of the University are given benefit accordingly. As per guidelines of the UGC, SC/ST Cell has also been established in the University.
Hostels - At present, there are four hostels in the university: two for girls and two for boys, namely, Harki Devi Bhawan (Girls Hostel-I), Kalpana Chawla Bhawan (Girls Hostel-II), Lala Lajpat Rai Bhawan (Boys Hostel- I) and Sardar Patel Bhawan (Boys Hostel-II). 800 (485 Girls and 315 Boys) students are residing in the hostels. All the four hostels have requisite electrical gadgets. Electric geysers have been installed in bathrooms. Water coolers with Reverse Osmosis System have also been provided. The hostels subscribe to several national & regional dailies and magazines for enabling the students to know what is happening around the world. The facility of 32 inches Plasma TVs along with Dish/DTH facility has been provided in common rooms of all the hostels. Telephone with ITC card is provided inside the premises of all the hostels, so as to enable the residents to talk to their parents.
Computer Laboratories - The department of Computer Science under the Faculty of Engineering & Technology of the university has three well-equipped Computer Labs. having around 100 computer systems (Acer P- IV and Celeron) and two Servers. Internet facility is also provided in the lab through dial up connection of 1 mbps bandwidth. The University is planning to widen the bandwidth through VSAT connectivity. Internet Facilities include Internet connection through broadband of 1 mbps, High speed Internet connectivity, One lab exclusively for Internet surfing having 10 computers.
Medical Facilities - It is provide to all hostel residents and is made available through the University Health Centre located in the University premises.
University Library - The Library at present has a total collection of 19,913 books on various subjects Besides these, there are general book holdings too. Nearly 3000 books, 10 computers are going to be added soon in the Library. The Library subscribes to 76 Indian Journals of national repute, 25 foreign journals, 10 magazines, one Employment News and 13 newspapers to cater to the need for general information. The photocopier facility is also available in the University Library.
Sports Activities - All sports activities of the University are being run under the Sports Council. The University has various play fields at its Campus which include Handball, Volleyball, Hockey, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Athletic Track, Multi Gym Machine, Korfball, Cricket and Football.
