About Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya - BPSMV

B.P.S. Mahila Vishwavidyalaya is a State University established by an Act of Haryana Legislature and recognised under sections 2 (F) & 12 (B) of UGC. It was established by Bhagat Phool Singh as a Gurukul, exclusively for girls at Khan pur Kalan in 1936. Bhagat Phool Singh was a Patwari (revenue collector) who turned a social reformer under the transforming influence of Arya Samaj. It was then known as Mahasabha Gurukul Vidyapeeth, Kanya Gurukul. In August 2006, it was upgraded the status of a University and was subsequently named Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya (BSMV). The  University is spread over 500 acres of land which, houses various teaching departments, constituent  colleges, two schools out of which one is a traditional Gurukul offering Hindi medium and the other is Campus School offering English medium; Administrative Block, Academic Staff College; Learning Resource Centre; Hostels & Faculty Houses. The university has a fully developed South Campus at Bhainswal Kalan developed into the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The Logo of the University shows women radiating energy and life.

Location
– The University is located in Sonipat District of Haryana. The University is well connected with Delhi and the neighbouring towns of Sonipat, Panipat, Gohana and Rohtak.

Facilities

Residential Facilities - The University provides hostel facilities to the resident students. The hostels are equipped with state of the art amenities like mess, solar water heaters, recreational facilities and library etc.  Rooms with both double and single occupancy are offered to the students. There are 15 hostels with modern facilities with a capacity of 3500 residents. The university has constructed 95 new faculty houses in addition to 131 old houses.

Libraries - The University has 1 central library and departmental libraries in all the Institutes/ Departments. The Central Library is air conditioned and has a good stock of books. It subscribes to National and International Journals magazines/ periodicals. The library also provides round the clock internet facility.

General Facilities
- The other central government facilities like, Post Office, Telegraph Office, and Nationalized Bank (PNB and HDFC) with ATM are also available on the campus. Also there is a Mini Market and a Cafeteria for meeting the daily needs of residents.

Bus Services - The University has its own buses running after short intervals throughout the day to ferry the Faculty, Administrative staff and students to and from the University. In addition to it, Haryana Roadways buses also run at select hours to and from the University.

Earn While You Learn - Aiming to make the students partners and associates in the Management of Institution, the University offers its students work opportunities within the campus. The programme, purely voluntary in nature, enables the students to earn while they learn. While students can meet their financial requirements for higher education under the scheme, in the process they learn to bear responsibility and promote dignity of labour. Students can choose assisting work in management of facilities like library, computer labs, cafeteria, kiosks, etc. as per their aptitude and interest.

University Centre for Judicial Services - University Centre for Judicial Services has been established in the University for imparting coaching and guidance for entering into judicial services.

Personality Development Centre  - It  grooms the all-round personality traits of the students. It also prepares the students for facing job interviews, making presentations etc.

Sports Facilities - The University has well developed facility for both outdoor and indoor games like Badminton, Volleyball, Kabaddi, Lawn Tennis, Judo, Basketball etc. A state of art Gymnasium is established in the university.

Health Care – The University has a well developed Ayurvedic College and a 110 bed Hospital
situated in the campus. It provides round the clock medical facility to the patients from within the university and the neighbouring villages. In addition to that, a Medical College for girls supported with 500 bed super speciality hospital is under construction on war footing.

Reservation & Fee Exemption – BPSMV has implemented the reservation policy of the Government of Haryana.

Besides this, following special provision is also made:

  1. Reservation of 4% seats in different courses for the girls of Khanpur Kalan village.
  2. Reservation of 20% (of reserved seats) seats for the natives of Bhainswal Kalan (1st preference to those who have donated land).
  3. 100% fee concession for the wards of families whose land is acquired by the university.

Scholarships - The University offers scholarships to the meritorious and needy students.

Sub-Centre of Cambridge University - A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya and the British Council, New Delhi for recognizing Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya as the sub-centre of Cambridge University ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) Examinations Department. Approximately 200 students have so far been trained for undertaking Business English Certificate (BEC) Examination of Cambridge University.

LRC
- Learning Resource Centre is an independent central facility of the University. It has 6 state-of-the-art Language Labs, equipped with latest technological software which help in effective learning of language.

STRITE - Staff Training and Research Institute for Teaching of English is an Autonomous Institute in LRC. It provides training in effective teaching of English to school & college teachers.

BEC – Business English Certificate is an International English Proficiency examination conducted by Cambridge University, U.K. The University provides training to students and teachers as well.

UGC- NET Coaching Centre - The University has established a centre for imparting coaching and guidance for National Eligibility Test (NET).

Guest House - The University has an International Guest House on campus, equipped with all modern facilities.

NSS - National Service Scheme develops a sense of social consciousness and dignity of labour amongst the students. The students are encouraged to participate in NSS which grooms them in becoming a better citizen and also provide them an opportunity to interact with society from close quarters . The volunteers of NSS are awarded merit certificates which help them in future job placement.

Placement - For the remaining students, on campus interviews is organized with reputed companies by the placement cell of the university to ensure jobs in the relevant industry.

Achievements

  • BPSMV has been selected as nodal University by United Nations Global Fund for training for AIDS for the State of Haryana.
  • Association of Commonwealth Universities has covered BPSMV in its Capacity Magazine, circulated in all Commonwealth countries.
  • It is the youngest university in India to get the Academic Staff College from UGC.
