Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education (formerly Noorul Islam College of Engineering) is a private co-educational university, The university was founded in 1989 by Dr.A.P.Majeed khan, who is now its chancellor with a motto to provide quality education to the students. Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education comprising of the Noorul Islam College of Engineering as its constituent teaching unit, has been declared as a Deemed-to-be-University by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (Department of Higher Education), Government of India under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, on the advice of the UGC, vide Notification No.F.9-51/2004-U.3 dated 8th December 2008.The University is run by the Noorul Islam Center for Higher Education (NICHE) Society with Janab Dr. A.P. Majeed Khan as president of the Society, NICHE and the Chancellor of the University, NIU.  The educational institution - Noorul Islam Engineering college - established with a humble beginning in the year 1989 with two under graduate engineering programs with intake capacity of 80 students, has now metamorphosed itself into  one of the  best educational institutions in the southern region of India offering 12 Undergraduate, 8 Post Graduate Programmes in engineering and Technology, one M.B.A program, one M.C.A program and 8 Engineering and Technology disciplines for pursuing the Ph.D degree. With  an intake capacity of 3500 students in total with the following infrastructure facilities available in the university.

Location  -  The university campus at Kumaracoil, Thuckalay in kanyakumari District of Tamilnadu, is situated in the serene and lush green base of Velimalai, a spectacular part of Western Ghat Hills near the historically famous Padmanabhapuram Palace. It is only 1.5 km interior towards the foothills of the mountains from Kumaracoil Junction on the Kanyakumari Thiruvanthapuram National Highway (NH-47)- about 30 km from Kanyakumari and 60 km from Trivandrum, capital city of state of Kerala.  Click here for - Google Map Location

Facilities

Hostel - The University provides separate accommodation for girls & boys both for Engineering, MBA and MCA Students. The girls hostel is located in the campus. It has got good facilities and infrastructure which makes students feel comfortable and find a homely atmosphere.

Staff Quarters - The University Staff Quarters is housed on the University campus. The staff quarters has a well furnished multi-purpose Hall, bath attached bedroom, dining room and kitchen.

Library - 40,000 volumes of books are available in the library ranging from technology to topics of general nature. 200 Reputed National and International Journals are also displayed so that students and staff can have exposure to the latest trends, developments and innovations Cassettes, Maps, CDs are also available. All UG and PG departments are equipped with their own departmental libraries with a considerably good collection of books. The facility for Xerox copying is also attached with the library. Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) facility is available in the campus through which availability of library. Digital Knowledge Centre is a separate learning wing of Central Library. Students and staff can access the online IEEE Journals through Digital Knowledge Centre. They can also access information for their Studies, Research and Carrier Development. Under the Inter Library Loan, students can borrow the Old books (books which are rare and out of print now) and rare books from Developed library network, Delhi (DELUET). The Library also has membership with British Council Library, Chennai and IIT Madras.

NPTEL - National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning is involved in the the operational objective to make high quality learning material available to students of engineering institutions across the country by exploiting the advances in information and communication technology.

Computing Facilities - The computer centres have more than 1000 Pentium based computers including the latest P-IV, Dual-Core, Core 2 Duo systems and IBM Intellistation workstations. Servers like IBM AS 400, IBM RS 6000, Sun Enterprise Ultra 10, Wipro Net Power 5210, HCL Infinity are available in the campus. The multi-conferencing architecture of NICE facilitates video conferencing between several departments, Classrooms and seminar halls. NICE has set-up in-door video conferencing within the campus through Local Area Network. Campus Networking is done with Fibre optical cable, RF modem and Wireless LAN technology and the Internet facility is made available to the entire campus with different servers.

Laboratory Equipments - These include 12” Diffused research Poloriscope, Spares and Electrical Instruments of Radar, Survey Lab, Hydraulics lab, CISCO catalyst 2950 Switch etc.

Transport Section - It operates in the campus with a fleet of 25 brand new Leyland buses purchased at a cost 2.5 crore. It operates regular bus-trips from Colachel, Kaliyakkavilai, Kulaseharam and Nagercoil to college and back on all working days both in the morning and evening. This is a boon for the day scholars coming from distant localities as they can reach the campus before time. Further the transport section provides buses for field trips of UG & PG students, for visits to various industries and establishments and for study purpose.

Placement & Training Department - It promotes Institution-Industry Interaction for the benefit of the Students, to carry out their In-plant Training, and to undertake Project Work as a part of their Educational requirements for each and every candidate as per the norms framed. It is in constant touch with the major industries throughout India in order to provide job opportunities to the students who are in their pre-final and final year.  It has arranged a number of Campus Interviews and off the Campus Interviews for the Pre-final and final year students.  Each and every academic year, the students are placed in well-reputed multinational companies, public sector companies and also placed in teaching profession continuously. Some recruiting companies are Infosys, Wipro, TCS, CTS, Satyam Computers, HCL etc.

Sports Facilities - It has a Basket Ball Court, Volley Ball Court and a Swimming Pool.

Auditorium -  There is an auditorium at the top of the building named 'Hill-Top Auditorium'.

• Approval as SIRO by Ministry of S&T, Govt. of India in 2008.

• ISO 9001 : 2000 CERTIFICATION up to 2011 by Ministry of Commn & IT, Govt. of India.

• Popularization of science award to the Institution by the Government of Tamil Nadu 2002.

• Award of Patent for the new innovation AVID, (Artificial Visual Implant Device) patented in the name of NICE up to 2024.

• Listed under section 2(f) of UGC Act 1956 - (F. 8-123/2006 (CPP-I).
