About Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research

Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research (Meenakshi University) was formed on 14th June 2004 on behalf of Meenakshi Ammal Trust. The Meenakshi Ammal Trust was founded in the year 1983 as a public charitable and Educational Trust by Mrs. D. Meenakshi Ammal, a noted philanthropist. The trust is involved in various educational activities like giving awards, scholarships, grants and aids to Indian citizens for study and research in the fields of education, Indian culture and fine arts etc. The Govt. of India in Ministry of Human Resource Development and Department of Secondary and Higher Education, New Delhi on the advise of the University Grants Commission, conferred Deemed to be University status to "Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research (MAHER)" as Per Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956 Vide Govt. Notification No.f.9-5/2002-U.3, dated.31.03.2004. At the time of conferment of Deemed University status, BDS and MDS Courses were conducted at Meenakshi Ammal Dental College, Maduravoyal, Chennai - 600095. Meenakshi Medical College and Research Institute, Enathur, Kanchipuram and Meenakshi College of Nursing, Mangadu, Chennai were included subsequently in Govt. of India's letter No.F.9-11/2004-U.3, dated 26.07.2004, and F.9-22/2004-U.3, dated 02.06.2005, under the ambit of MAHER-Deemed University). Total Extent of the area of the University is 39.08 acres. Teaching at University happens at three level - Instruction, Research and Outreach. Apart from the regular curriculum, there are seminars, regular tours for hands-on learning and interactive sessions and guest lectures to nurture the intellectual skills in perception, analysis and communication. Through this three-pronged learning approaches, University helps the students to develop extraordinary skills in analytical and critical thinking and learning.

Facilities

Hostel & Canteen - Separate Hostel accommodation is available for girls and boys. The Girls Hostel has the facility of Separate Kitchen, Mess, health support, Telephone lines and a cloak room. The boys hostel can house up to 400 Boys and has a separate Kitchen and Mess.

Water & Power Supply - University has 24 Hours regular water supply and a stand-by captive generator for handling emergencies during power failures.

Sports & Recreation - The University offers an extensive array of competitive opportunities for men and women in sports, games and cultural activities to develop his or her intellectual pursuits. University has a modern athletic centre, tennis, volley-ball and basket-ball courts and a games room for all indoor games. The University also has its very own theatre space and indoor auditorium for creative pursuits.

Health & Counselling - University maintains close relations with the special support services for 24 Hours safety around the campus. Regular health check-ups and medical facilities are available to all students. A resident Doctor is available round the clock. For Medical emergencies, there is a medical college with in the campus and the university also has access to two nearby hospitals.

Placement Support - University has its own Placement Cell and Training Centre for campus interviews. University is preferred uniformly by large, medium-sized industries, service organizations, public and private sectors from all over India. With an optimal combination of resources and people, University gives every student the skills, knowledge and experience to excel in a career-driven job market.

• NAAC has awarded an "A" level (85%) to the Meenakshi Ammal Dental College.
